Well it's a New Year and theres a couple of excellent Blues releases due out this month. Firstly the new Guy Davis- On Air Music, Rbt Cray- Live at the BBC and perhaps the one I am looking forward to most of all The Black Banjo Project. They consist of Otis Taylor, Keb Mo, Don Vappie,Corey Harris, Guy Davis and Alvin Youngblood Hart. Here's a link to a video on youtube.

Thanks Ewemon,
Looking forward to this. Some of the best modern blues players around IMO.

Elmore James is on from 'The Complete Meteor Blues,R & B & Gospel Recordings'(CDCH2 1090). The sound quality from the original acetates is very intense. Not distorted like the Sun Records stuff.
Whoever was working the board on these sessions knew what the hell they were doing. Early to Mid-Fifties stuff from artists like Rufus Thomas,Elmore James,Little Milton,Fenton Robinson,Del Rios, and others. The bands sound so good and clear. All live to disc or tape sessions. All Memphis recordings.
If you want to hear what a professional touring/recording Blues band sounded like in the fifties then you have to have this stuff.
The Gospel stuff is very, very good too. It's 2 CD's worth of material with a booklet to die for. It's on Ace Records.
This label does re-issues the right way.
Incredible!
