any good? I have on pre-order but wondered whether any of our US contributors have seen or heard of the LA gig.

Promo looks OK.

Is it me or is Mayer the most popular artist on 'What are you listening to...' at the moment?

Perhaps that's the case Chillkram. I just last week caught his performance at Glasto and thought WOW, I should give this guy a listen.
Incidentally, I was auditioning some speakers last week (living voice & more Proac)and found a group of people congregated outside my listening space boogying on down to the Eddie Boyd I had on. Their excuse was that they had never heard him before. I hope that in a little while forum members will ask the same questions of this old guy as they do of John Mayer... and that Mayer has such longevity Smile

It's really a great album and it sounds fantastic. I really like the 'Vultures'track and my girlfriend keeps playing 'daughters'. I probably go for the blu-ray as well..

The first John Mayer track I heard (and incidentally, also loved) was "Your Body is a Wonderland". I believe that it's on the album "Room for Squares"... definitely recommended as an introduction to John Mayer.

Of course, I have a slightly biased point of view -- that song signaled the start of a relationship with a girl I dated all through college. Good times...

Got my DVD and CD from the States, and have been enjoying the DVD today.

Superb stuff.

Does anyone else here think that this boy sounds and for that matter play's like the late great SRV ?

Not really. The only similarity is that their guitar playing is overtly indebted to Jimi Hendrix, but the similarity ends there. SRV was a great bluesman for sure, but Mayer has that plus a more vivid imagination, expansive creativity, deeper songcraft, and wider textural and stylistic breadth.

All best,
Fred

I don't detect any vocal similarities but hints of Stevie's guitar playing are definitely there. I was lucky enough to attend a JM concert recently, a class performer for sure. Unfortunately I never got to see SRV.

I'll back you up here Howlinhounddog, I think he does sound vocally like SRV as well as playing like him. In fact that was my very comment to GML, JN, TonyM and Jon Honeyball when listenin to him for the first time earlier this year at Tony's.

Glad to hear that Mark, although we appear to be in the minority.

Me too. I hear SRV's vocals in some of the live stuff - no bad thing though, is it? Big Grin
