CD2 has difficulty with some discs
Posted by: musfed on 11 August 2003
Last week I found a 2hand cd2 in town. I was stupid enough to take it home for a demo. Needless to say I did not bring it back. It makes my PMC tb1's sing through my Nait2. Even my girlfriend was amazed how much better the player sounded than my Denon dcd1520.
Incredible sound for me as a fairly recent Naim convert.
Only thing is it won't play some cd's because, according to my dealer, the hole in the cd isn't exactly centered and it begins to 'wobble'. The cd player gives me an 'err'.
Is this a known problem and is there a sollution??
Thanks,
Harm-Jan

Hi HJ!
I can guess where you did get that CD2 from!
I bought a CD2 three months ago. I had the same problem, although they told me the transport had just been replaced. Mine is at the Naim factory right now where they'll fix it!
It could be your puck is wordn; check if the rubbers are still round. If with a new puck you'll have the same problem, your dealer should send the player to Naim, as the transport will probably be broke. Sorry I can't give you better news, other than it is a terrific player and Naim is able to fix the problem (although at a cost).
Regards, Bas

Hi Bas,
Thanks for your reaction. Puck is all right as far as I can see.
There are probably not that many cd2’s for sale in Holland. They told me as well that the transport had been replaced. Couple of years ago because it did not play cd rw’s !?! (do not play those anyway so that will not be a problem)
Thing is, it wasn’t replaced by Naim but by the store where I bought the cd2. They where a Naim dealer in those days but he told us he did not sell enough to keep the brand. Luckily I have a 1 year guarantee and so far I managed to ‘repair’ one cd it did not play by sandpapering the edge a little. I tried this because at first I thought the CD2 was very sensitive of the size of the cd. And I can say it worked for that one disc.

Hmm, so your transport has been replaced too... Well, if I were you I would return it to the shop and have them ask Naim to fix it. The problem will only become more and more obvious, my player refused to play any discs within a couple of weeks. I believe that unauthorized persons can only harm the beautiful Naim jewelry...
Perhaps you could contact Naim? They ar always very helpful!

Hi Musfed
Is your CD2 level?

I wasn't very happy either when he told me he fixed it himself. I mean, it is possible he is capable enough to fix it but,…. We all want proven pro’s to maintain Naims and this means sending it too the UK.
Because of my guarantee I will wait a while, listen and enjoy and see if it gets as worse a with your player Bas. (hope not of course)
I made sure to have the player as level as I could get it with my toolkit.
