BigH, I'd say the series finale left many questions unanswered, as I expected it would. In terms of the number of loose ends tied up, I would give it 5 out of 10. However, it excelled in bringing almost every character's story to a conclusion, and featured one emotional reunion after another. For character development and emotional impact, I give it a 10. It's frustrating that the writers littered the show with so many red herrings, and unresolved plot points, but the finale was so brilliantly realised, I don't feel cheated, and will be happy to rewatch the entire series when it comes out on DVD.

Guess I have a lot of catching up to do. I have never seen an episode of Lost.

Don't waste your time Adrian.

More questions than answers.

There's never been a more aptly titled piece of tv - "Lost" is exactly how I spent every minute watching it.

I think it has been one of the best pieces of TV ever made , just a touch long . Clever and original scenarios, more red herrings than a John West factory.
We got hooked by watching the first series in less than a week.

I felt a little let down, but it was quite a moving experience.
At least it got to finish as the writers wanted and not by TV channel execs chopping it, as is to happen to Heroes.

I agree. Smart, original, evocative, and ambitious to a fault. It's a miracle it survived for so long in the cut-throat, short-termist world of US TV.

The problem with shows like this is that they have to cater to three types of viewer here in North America.

There are the fanatics who will watch a large number of this type of show.

There are those who maybe watch one show like this a week.

Then you have those whom have picked one or two of these to follow closely, but have a passing interest in the others. This means you have to be able to watch a few of these per season and be able to follow the plot in general and enjoy it. Lost was not one of these shows.

There are so many these days, 24, Lost, Heroes, House, Desperate Housewives, Grey's Anatomy as well as American Idol, So You think You Can Dance, Glee, V, Flashforward (really, really crap), etc..

For me I hated Lost when the season 1 ending for asked more questions than answered. That was it for me.

The real problem is whatever the scriptwriters had in mind for the series went out of the window as it became clear the network had a bigger hit on their hands than they originally thought ....suddenly many more shows were needed to milk the cash cow they'd found themselves with.

The opportunity to make more money for the network transcended the original idea to have a much more linear story line ....so all sorts of stupid (if quite imaginative) plotlines are developed to pad things out for 6 (!) whole series.

...A tightly written 3 series show would imho have been much preferable but would have sold far less advertising!!

I've never watched a minute of it. I did watch The Wire on DVD, though (trying to find time for the last season). That was good.

I was fan and watched every episode until Virgin and Sky fell out a while back so for us it stopped dead 4 or 5 episodes from the end of that season. I confess I was feeling by then it was starting to wander and spent too much time on the others or whatever they were called. When we finally started receiving it again I had no inclination to try to catch up.

I'd be interested to know what it was all about though. Smile

I watched the 1st and 2nd series, and to be honest was becoming bored with it about halfway through series 2. Then it moved to Sky. Don't want or need a Sky subscription, so forgot all about it. Certainly wasn't good enough for me to buy the DVD sets to see how it finished.

Great great show. Loved nearly every episode of it and it ended very well. Highly recommended once the DVDs of the entire season are released.

Sorry, but any threads on Lost should be in the hosts banned list of discussions.
Posted on: 27 May 2010 by BigH47
Why?

Anything else that you would add to your arbitrary censorship list?
Just so that we don't upset you, again.

Maybe I just don't have enough spare time to blow on an extended mini-series. Lost had Dallas' "it was all a dream" written all over it so I gave up after 3 episodes.

Seriously, there is far more worthy material on the box.

For example how's Curb Your Enthusiasm as a benchmark?

CYE: Mad , over the top, predictable and boring!

It's not a 'how good/bad is Lost" thread thread though is it?

Just a question about the ending.

I'm sure there are many more TV series we could disagree on.
