3.5/Hi or CD5/FC2?

Hi Guy's.

Been out here a while, read a lot but posted little.

I currently have a 3.5/FC2/72/140 system and I'm about to order a Hi-cap for the 72. I have a problem in that although the range and detail is there, after a while it seem's 'shouty' and fatiguing to listen to. It could be the speaker's (B&W CDM2SE)but I do actually like the look and overall sound of them.

I'm hoping the Hi-cap will improve thing's but what about the next step? The price of used 3.5's make me go pale, as it's taken two year's and several thousand pound's to get here, so I ideally need to make the most of what I've got.

I'm thinking along the lines of:- 3.5/Hi/72/Hi/140 or CD5/FC2/72/Hi/140.

A dedicated supply will come after the Hi-cap.

I know a CDX will 'cure all ill's' but I only want to make small finacial step's at this stage.

Has anyone tried the above combinations? I've read that adding a Hi to a 3.5 will rob it of 'bounce' and 'life'.

What I do know is that I really like the 140 - best purchase so far.

I would be grateful for any advise or comment's from the forum.

Steve.

Get a second hicap, of course!!!!!
CD3.5/Hicap/Nac72/hicap is really better than CD5/Nac72/Hicap; and it is much cheaper!!!!

A Hi-cap will improve the performance of a 3.5 considerably.

Those who prefer the raw edge of the naked 3.5 are those who are hooked on the hi-fi artifice of distortion, particularly at the high frequencies.

Harshness should not be confused with dynamics.

A hi-cap will bring authority to the party in place of stridency.

Steve.
