Bi-Amping with NAP180s

Posted by: Jack911 on 17 February 2004

I have a 102/180 and I was wondering if it would be worth getting another 180 and running a bi-amped configuration.

I suppose the other option is to sell the existing 180 and use the money to buy a 250.

Any comments or suggestions?

1. I would have thought that if you have 102/180, your most cost-effective avenues for improvement would be firstly your source (unless it's already maxed), secondly a HiCap, and thirdly a better preamp such as a 72 (contentious!) or a 52.

2. As James notes, a 250 won't power your 102, so you'd need a HiCap in any case.

3. Passive bi-amping (even with 180s) also requires a Hicap.

In general, money spent closer to the source will deliver vastly more benefit per pound spent!

Best;
