AV2 Discontinued

Posted by: Jack911 on 24 November 2010

I see that the AV2 was discontinued this year. So if I'm putting together an AV system, what should I use as the processor? Any chance of an AV3 or has Naim completely given up on that market sector??

As yet there is no news of a replacement - its a tough market sector and I would be surprised to see a replacement a all.

I have seen secondhand Av2 for sub £500 - an absolute bargain when matched with the right Bluray player.

I have a Sony S350 at the moment. Do you think that would match up OK?

By the way, what's a good resource for finding used equipment like this?

Buying an AV2 is definitely something you want to do through your dealer. That way you can be sure your unit will be fully up to date and you'll have some guarantee and back-up for it. The processing itself is good, but it won't internally process Blu-ray codecs. However, it does have a superb 7.1 analog input, so if your Blu-ray player has good quality processing onboard, the AV2 can stand with the best. It's probably the most musically satisfying processor out there but it does have some idiosyncracies to it - mainly due to Naim's no-compromise approach to music replay. Some hand-holding from a Naim dealer is well worth any premium.

But hasn't it now been discontinued and therefore no longer available through dealers?
