star washer.

On the used 140 I bought recently there are 3 outer case screws with a star washer on only one of them. I assumed the owner neglected to put the other two on. I think I might be mistaken? If so which screw should it be on and how tight should it be.

Everything is OK.
It should have only one screw with a star washer, it is located near the rear of the unit. It should be tight. This screw is to tight the earth to the sleeve for security and to shield the amp.

thanks manu. I had refitted the case with the washer on the wrong screw. Hifi can be perplexing sometimes :-/ Did I harm the amp?

You should not have been able to fit the washer on the wrong screw as the 2 others should be contersinked screws. If they are not, ask your dealer/distributor for new ones. These 2 must have the maximum contact surface with the case: they act as thermal conductors from heatsinks to the outer sleeve.
