82 phono boards how to tell if I've got one

Posted by: ARC on 24 May 2003

I have a NAC82 and am about to change to 52. In selling the 82 I've been asked if I have a phono board fitted. As I'm digital only how can I tell if I have a board and if so which one? Presumably I have to open the 82 and take a look unless I have X-ray vision.

Any ideas?

Arc, you will need to open it up, but it should be easy, four feet on the botto, and perhaps a size four allen bolt.

If you have phono boards they will be behind the BNC inputs, and for want of a better decription will look slightly complex, with risitors etc on them.

There are two and are around 1.5 inch by 2.5 inch PCB boards plugged into four gold pins each on the main board.

If you do not have them then there may be 'through' boards which are really simple, they look a PCB board with little else on them.

If you do have phono boards and it has a sticker with K on then its an MC boards, otherwise its probably MM Boards.

Sorry about the loose descriptions.

Best thing woul dbe to take a photo of the inside and post it here.

Brendan,

My Nac72 has a sticker with the letter 'N' above the BNC plugs and moving magnet boards are installed.

Thanks,

Robert

Well I've had a look and I have a board with a K on it and the number 16. The Naim part number is NA523/1 so hopefully that will help it sell on ebay.
