Video editing

Posted by: BigH47 on 27 June 2007

I am thinking of using videos copied from sky+ etc copy them to DVD_RW and then like making a cd compilation drag and drop various sections into a final DVD.
Any recommendations for Software that will achieve this as NERO seems unwilling to copy files from my discs recorded on a Liteon DVDR .
I know I can play the Sky box and pause the recording. I just thought the CD type way seemed less time consuming. I don't know if there are any copyright issues as Sky include a copy(to DVD) function, but that will only record the complete recording any attempt at editing will result in the programme stopping.

Sugestions anyone?
BTW not to techie please, partial techno phobe.

Have a go with Sony Vegas software. You should be able to download a trial version that does everything except burn the disc. I used it to capture a lot of video off of Hi8 tape with no problems. If it doesn't read your Liteon discs then at least it will have cost nothing.

I record quite a few things using a freeview card in my pc. I then burn a lot onto DVD for watching later and to free up HDD space. Not sure if this is similar to your requirement, but here goes.

Using nero it would either fail or would try to re-encode the native MPEG stream, losing quality.

My technique now is to use something called VideoReDo (it costs about $50, but there's a trial), it's really great at trimming files and removing ads. You can use VideoReDo to create a joiner list of a number of files, so for instance I've saved the last Dr Who series for the kids with 3 episodes per DVD.

I save the file as elemental streams.

Then use something called IfoEdit (free) to create a DVD image. Then use Nero to burn this onto a DVD.

No coasters in around 100 DVDs.

Nor sure it's quite the same as your requirement but worth a try.
