Rock School

Did anyone watch this this evening? A little bit different to the X factor. I will be tuning in next Friday, that's for sure.

Did they select the participants(year9 going on 90) to be of that type. I am pretty sure that most of the pupils there will have some knowledge of music other than Beethoven and Bach.
Gene sure surprised them when he started.
A mate of mine co-wrote a "Rock Opera" called Cain with the pupils of Christs' Hospital in the '60s or early '70s.
So thats at least twice they have had Satans music there.

A most unlikely venue for Gene Simmons!

Sure is, didn't look like that when I saw him in concert years back.

Kiss were loud. Very loud.

Regrettably I was a pupil at Christ's Hospital in the 70s - and before anyone says 'posh twat' I wa paid for by the council and only went there because my mother died and my father was suicidal!!

I can assure you that (at least then anyway) not all the pupils were like those portrayed on the programme - we used to listen to the Pistols, Stranglers, Iggy etc just like everyone else. Rest assured that I wouuld never send one of my boys there.

Howard's memories of Cain certainly brough back the memories. It was quite good and was released as an album. Local group Visitor 2035 joined various pupils to do it. The only line I remember was 'come on down God, give us a party man'. Still it was the 70s.

It's an interesting programme last night - I loathe Kiss as much as Christ's Hospital, so there's a certain dynamic for me.

I'm pleased that very few of you know who I am!!

Nigel I'm still in touch with Ray from Visitor 2035.He still plays guitar, and a couple of times ayear they have a blues night( at The White Hart Pulborough) at the last one 3/4 of Vistor 2035 were "re-united". My mother always wanted me to go to Christs Hospital, I didn't though.

I was a more recent pupil at CH and completed my A-Levels in 2001. I am sorry you have such bad feelings with the school, but I can only report the opposite. It was the best thing I ever did, going there, and I wish I could go back and repeat the whole thing. But yeah, you're right, although I'm a musician myself, I studied loads of music, and no one in their right minds have got Beethoven, Bach and Handel on their Top 25 played in their iTunes! The school changed drastically since the 70's and keeps on changing, but unfortunately the hole ethos is going too. My brother still attends the school and he loves it there. I wish you could put your memories aside and see the school as it is today. You may be pleasantly surpised. It isn't as its portrayed on the programme. Mostly Channel4 have hyped it up to make it seem as though Gene has transformed these Choir kids to Rock stars, but a little secret, people I know were brought in to teach the kids how to play the instruments etc. so although I enjoy watching the show, its mostly a farce.
