NAS - for all this work

Posted by: Ondra on 23 January 2010

My current configuration is: NAIM UNITY linked through TIME Capsule to iMAC 24 with snow leopard where majority of my digital music is stored as an Apple lossless (.m4a) managed by iTunes. I am using ExeConnect media manager. Uf.. :-)

I am thinking about switching to NAS solution (partially also to feed my PS3 and store Security cameras videos).

So I need NAS server (from NAIM user point of view):
to which I can transfer my Apple lossless (.m4a) library managed by iTunes
which can stream FLAC files in a way Unity can read them
which is is 100% manageable from iMac
I would like to have a possibility to access to NAS wirelessly (ideally through Time Machine router)

Is NetGear DUO (owned by many people discussing here) a good pick or Synology or whatever?

Thanks.

I have a Neatgear Rady NAS Duo and it works perfectly and was very easy to setup. Pretty noisy though so best out of the listening room

I use Ve-Hotech VHS-4: 4Tb in Raid 5, Gigabit, Embedded servers (itune + squeeze) and store there all my computer data + pics + video+ Flac ...and you can also use it as a time capsule...what else do you need ? Ah yes, I forgot: I fully administrate it from the Mac... Winker
The special point of this server is very high throughput. Can read music + video + pics at the same time with no issue.
