Anybody using it yet?

Thanks for raising this Deane. I was an adventurer at one time but no more. I'll wait until some other mug has done their final testing before checking it out.

Yeah, me too. Precisely the reason I started the thread.

Any mugs tried Firefox 1.5 yet? Big Grin

That should be rephrased as "anybody been desperate to be at the forefront of technology, to see the future, etc"

No. And not going there either. If the future is browsers that don't work properly, I'll stay in the present. For now.

Using the latest Mozilla as my default browser - it seems fine.

Have tried FireFox and like it much better than Internet Explorer, but Safari remains my browser of choice.

Seems to work OK on mac, but TBH safari seems to have caught up in terms of speed and now there is a freeare ad blocker I am all set.

I used Safari when I was stuck using my mother's iMac a couple of weeks ago. I found that a few websites wouldn't display very well on it.

That wasn't as annoying as the one-buttton mouse though.

Looks to be working OK to me with a fully patched MS Windows XP Home. One extension (copy plain text) needs to be updated by Mozilla but Adblock, Adblock Filterset.G Updater and Noscript still work. Switching between pages seems quicker and I like the way I can now reorder tabs by draging to new positions. I might update Thunderbird in a couple of days and see how the new version looks.

Why do you need more than one button on the mouse (or indeed any buttons) you just push it down to click.

It is true that there are some non-standard web sites (i.e they don't follow W3C guidelines) that don't work and these are best avoided - many of these indicate they were written by a stupid programmer - the asp extension being a give away - seriously sites that contain rubbish like ActiveX should be avoided at all costs - because although an iMac is immune to ActiveX if you're using a Windoze PC then it can do untold damage as it can run executable code without asking the user's permission.

It's just what I am most familiar with when it comes to the mouse I guess. I am not used to going to a menu at the top of the page to cut/paste/copy etc.

If you have a two button USB mouse and plug it in to the iMac's USB port on the keyboard then both buttons will work. The right hand button will emulate Ctrl-Click.

Apple has always maintained menus should be in one place and apply to the active window. (No moving targets). So there is no way that I know to change Aqua UI's behaviour - I'm used to it having worked with Apple computers since the Apple II and then through the Lisa and various incarnations of the Macintosh. Mac OS X is, IMHO, Apple's best OS ever (probably because I have a Unix backgound).

You're right - you get used to looking in one place for something and when it is not there, it takes some getting used to. On occasions when I have to use a Windoze PC, I'm always irritated that it uses Ctrl-C and Ctrl-V to cut and paste rather than the usual Command-C and Command-V, but that is because PCs don't have a Command key. As you say it what you get used to.

A fair review from eweek.com.

I find it amusing people moan about the one button mouse. Its not hard wired to the computer, its just a mouse they put in the box, if you don't like it, use any USB mouse currently available on the planet, no software required. Scroll wheel and right clicked picked up no problem.

I have not found many websites that don't work with Safari. There is another hifi forum where replies wouldn't except carrige returns, I fail to see how this can be safaris fault. My bank works, ebay is a bit slow but then it is on all browsers on any computer I have ever used.

I would be interested if anyone knows of a specific website that does not work with safari, just to see what it does wrong.

It was me dear old Mum's iMac and she is happy with the mouse that came with it - and not having a thumb on her right hand I think she finds it easier to use as the whole mouse is pressed down to effect a button click.

I find it amusing that Apple haven't manufactured a two or three button mouse yet - I'm sure Apple enthusiasts would no doubt happily pay 100 pounds for a genuine two button Apple mouse... Winker

isn't it a single button with finger sensors?
Posted on: 11 September 2005 by Deane F
Just looked it up on the web.

"Single button looks - multi button charm"

- with sensors instead of buttons.

A better mousetrap?

Although I'm happy with my standard mouse, I'll give the new Apple mighty mouse a try, {Apple advocating multi-button mice eh, next they'll be putting Intel processors in a Mac Big Grin}

On another point, please could you point me at a couple of sites that don't work with Safari as I'd be interested to have a look.

Thanks, Rotf

I am no longer staying at me dear old Mum's which was the only reason I was using Safari. I went and bought a laptop actually and am enjoying the space it isn't using.

When webpages didn't display properly on Safari, and there were only a couple I came across while surfing, it was mainly blocks of text overlapping by half a line at the top and bottom of each block of text. I thought that good webpage designers tried their pages on a number of different browsers though - so ultimately it's their fault if it doesn't work properly on one particular browser no?
