Mac Mini into the nDAC & IPOD Touch

Hi@all!
If I would have a Mac Mini hooked up to the nDAC and if I would use it as a music server, how can I control the headless Mac Mini with an Ipod Touch?
I know it works with the app "Remote", but does this mean that the Mac Mini must be in wireless/wired contact with my router???
This would mean that without a router (either attached to it by cable or wirelessly) I canĀ“t control the Mac Mini as a music server with the Ipod Touch, right?

Absolutely right, the remote app works on the IPod Touch over wifi so the Mac Mini needs to be either hard connected or wirelessly connected to the same network.
By the way the remote app on the iPad is much, much better than on the iPod touch!

Yes, your iPod Touch needs a Wireless conenction to be able to use the Remote App.
You could setup what is known as ad-hoc wireless network to allow the iPod Touch to connect to your MacMini, however my feeling would be getting a cheek Wireless router would be more reliable and easier to setup. A few quid should buy one off eBay suitable for such use.

From memory ... enable wireless networking on the Mini and enable the menu-bar icon for it. From this menu select "Create network", give it a name and password and then connect your Touch to that network. It will not give you the same range or throughput as a good router so dont expect multi-room streaming HD-video. But a remote should be no problem.

Actually creating a Ad Hoc network with a Mac is a piece of cake, just check "Create Computer to Computer network" in the network and you are set to associate the iphone/Touch with the Mac.

This would also be a cool scenario:
* MacBookPro + HiFace BNC+ DC1 into the nDAC...right?

This thread has me thinking. In running a AppleTV2 into my SN optically. I am very pleased witht the sound, but there is some room for improvement.(buying a polished glass toslink from lifitec helped)
I was toying with the idea of a mac mini as a poor mans Unityserve, but was curious how much improvement i would get.
My wife just purchased a Mac Book Pro. Does anyone know if i can take an optical digital sinal out, like the mini? I could buy a mini toslink adaptor, and i should be able to get a very good idea of any improvements over my ATV2 with her Mac Book. Anyone out there done something similar?

Marc

Connect your wife's MBP via mini toslink to your SN.

Firstly I used an optical cable between Mac Mini and NDac. I then added a Naim DC1 and M2Tech Hiface BNC into NDac coaxial and it was a great improvement in clarity, speed and PRaT. Not a big cost either.
