Strange e-mail from Wimlslow Audio

Posted by: Martin Payne on 22 November 2006

I have just received a rather strange e-mail claiming to be confimation of my subscription to a Wilmslow Audio mailing list. I'm sure I haven't signed up for such a thing.

Has anyone else received anything similar? I've blanked out the info in italics:-

Martin,

Not from Wimlslow Audio but, over the last two days I have received two 'phishing' e-mails. One purporting to be from Smile Bank and the other from Egg (credit cards).

I don't have an account with either although I was asked to submit personal details via 'links'. Needless to say I deleted them both.

This is the first time I've received anything like this and I also wondered where they got my e-mail address from.

George.

Some of the bigger companies Barclays HSBC etc have a mail address to which you can forward these "phishing" mails. They can then try to get to the writer.

why would barclays be interested in Wilmslow audio?
Posted on: 22 November 2006 by BigH47
Bob I was referring to the Smile bank and Egg mails. They may be big enough or care enough to have some to look into them. As for Wimslow contact them to tell them what is happening in their name might be the way to go.

I had my visa card hijacked a couple of months ago. £3000 quid for tickets to Nairobi by Air France 4 weeks after the event. The ticket numbers were even on my Visa statement. Barclaycard didn't let Air France know, they couldn't give a stuff. They also asked why I hadn't let plod know. I pointed out it wasn't me who had been defrauded it was them. I let Air france know. They were very grateful.
