Lambchop news

Guys just been listening to Bob Harris's Saturday show on the radio two website, about 1.14 mins in is a track from the up and coming lambchop album.
It will be called "AwCMon" on the City Slang lable - 5477413.
I think it sounds really nice, more towards What Another Man Spills, than Is A Woman, but will no doubt be a great start to 2004.

I've seen this Lambchop mentioned quite a bit on this forum, but I'm not familiar with them. Where would I start if I wanted to try an album?

Lambchop are awesome. You probably have an idea of what kind of music it is. Only they're better.
You buy one, you'll end up buying them all. I really like What Another Man Spills.

Oh, Oh, and "Is a woman" is pretty amazing too. Don't listen to it in the shop though because it's a true grower of the creeping variety.
I'm still trying to get a copy of the Chester (Kurt Wagner and Josh Rouse) EP.

Ludwig,
You might like to read this thread after I 'discovered' Lambchop earlier this year and asked for some buying advice.

Can be a dissenting voice here. I found Is A Woman in my local library so I borrowed it on the strength of recommendations here.
I played it many times but just did not get it. It went back to the library and I never bothered to buy a copy.

Algers,
In fact I was just playing "What Another Man Spills", my sole Lambchops album. Good so far!

Album arrived today on two lovely slabs of vinyl.
Anyone interested int he vinyl version will find it at CDZone.co.uk for 10.99
I love Lambchop so biased opinion aside:
This is a lovely album, typically Lambchop, mabye a tadge more on What another man spills, but with that lovely open space from Is A Woman, with lots of strings, and on the vinyl at least a fantastic recording, with the depth of kick drum hitting you in the chest with no apparent sound, if you get me.
Just lovely.

Thanks for that info, Gary. I heard some of it a Paris FNAC (St. Lazare) and was impressed but in digital format it's a copycontrol disc, of which I've vowed never to buy any more.
I tried 'Nixon' first and just could not get on with it.

Since getting 'How I quit Smoking', I have to say that Nixon, is quite a departure from what LambChop do.
I quite like Nixon, but its not a patch on 'Is a woman' or 'What another man spills' and I recommend both and is a woman is available on vinyl as well.
The vinyl always sounds better BTW, must be something with his voice

I've just got the two albums on CD, as Gary says there's some beautiful string arrangements on there and on the initial two listens it's both musically interesting and sounds good to boot.
Many of the tracks have that haunting, beguiling character that draws you in.
I'm not yet sure if it's up there with Is a Woman (the only other Lambchop I have), but I know that album so well, it's truly excellent. Maybe different, rather than better or worse.
Andy.

Is a Woman was one of my albums of the year at the time. With Awcmon etc the lush strings and constant droning are beginning to get on my nerves. Are Lambchop actually going anywhere or churning out very similar stuff, albeit better stuff than most other people?
By next week I may have changed my mind and this'll be my album of the year, but if so its not going to be a very good year.

Hi Guys,
Just have a listen for the Labchop's new albums, only one side from HMV, THe side with Steve McQueen, some track are as good as Is a woman, as other guys said, there are more strings and more upbeat. Without a doubt that it is going to be a classic.
At Fopps, the vinyls are only a tenner.
cheers
Martin

Both albums now had a week of listening and really growing. AwCmon-lush, string laden and most like 'Is A Woman', although perhaps lacking the lyrical quality of that album. I thought it lacked some variety on first plays but it is seeping in now. NoCmon more varied and surprising, my favourite of the two. Lots to enjoy on both and best purchases of the year so far by some distance. Looking forward to how they try to replicate this live.

I think their latest is more like Nixon than 'Is a women'. To be honest I could not get on with 'Is a women' as I found it rather one paced and indulgent. The latest one is better but really it would have made a better single album; I think some of the tracks are bit annoying and somewhat willful.

I am enjoying the new one. I gave them a rest after Nixon so can't comment on Is a Woman except for what I heard live which put me to sleep (literally!!).
However I remain to be convinced that they will ever top What Another Man Spills. Every chop fan should own this album!

I've just bought 'another man spills' to add to 'is a woman' that I've had for some time.
Excellent stuff. Can't stop playing it.
Looks as though I will be buying this as well.

I picked up Aw Cmon, No You Cmon this afternoon. Astounding album - easily a match for Is A Woman - a great follow up. Even better than that song Kurt did with Morcheeba
