Blackwater

Private "Security" firm (mercenaries?)Sounds pretty crooked to me. One of their personnel gets drunk, shoots somebody - and they get whisked out of Iraq and the family of the dead guy gets paid $15,000 USD. No involvement by Iraq's justice system.
He
did get fired though.

Of course they are mercenaries....my brother was a mercenary in Iraq...ex of the WA police force, ex of the Australian Military.....he and many others sell their skills and experience to protect others working in the area.
It's happened since the days of the Crusades and will happen for a long tome to come.
For the record, he thinks that Blackwater are a bunch of cowboys and is not surprised by their behaviour.
You really think Iraq has a justice system today?

No, I don't think they have a justice system in any sense of the phrase as I understand it. And without a working justice system there is no democracy.
That Blackwater has a contract to guard State Dept diplomats in Iraq makes your brother's remark even more worrying.

So why not have the Army guarding State Department employees after all I would expect that the Army would be more accountable for their actions than outside contractors..... Oh wait have I've answered my own question?
Yes I do think Iraq has a justice system but it may well function along tribal lines as it seems do most other and higher levels of the Government. Not good, not bad just Iraqi.
