ah the deano saga!
well as i understand it the guys had personal problems including a nervous breakdown when out with injury.
he ended up in the priory by all accounts, he reckons he was just depressed as he thought his playing days were over !
either way there is NO excuse for a pro footballer to return to the club 2 stone overweight ! to me he seems that he is still carrying the injury somewhat....i mean he doesnt seem to run properly - he cant jump for high balls like he once did either.
in other words he aint the same player he once was and in my opinion never will be! its a crying shame but thats how i see it!
why curbs cant or wont see these things is beyond all whu fans.
they didnt even chant his name when warming up last night which is a first.
as for rigamortis he should never pull on a claret n blue shirt again!! never rated the guy when at fulham. he can p**s off back there if they like him so much!!
regards, dave

Thats a shame for Deano, & for us. And for the England team as well.
Being an optimist, maybe, given enough time & expert help, he can still get back to full fitness. Hey, it looks like we are staying up this year, europe still looks to be a bit of a stretch, so put him on the back-burner, give him plenty of time, & get him right for the start of next season.

i agree we should concentrate on finishing as high in the league as possible and with wigan and brum as our next games i expect 6 points no less.
i cant see anyone coming in for deano as it stands - would you ?
so it looks like hes stuck with us and vice versa....lets hope he improves and returns next year all guns blazing.
i very much hope so.
regards, dave.
p.s. cant you drive one handed or borrow an automatic ?

Hi mate.
The missus car is an auto, but even then, the indicators/lights etc still ideally need 2 hands as the controls are to the left of the steering wheel. I'm not even sure if its legal to drive in my present state, ie only one hand on the wheel ALL the time. Still, the monthly petrol bill is now halved, which will please the bank manager a bit!
Cheers, Matt.

Looks like beckhams been left out of the england squad. At last we have a manager who can see that playing part time in the USA & ball juggling on a beach does not equate to match fitness, & is not afraid to drop players, regardless of celeb status or sentimentality. Good.

What is the 'average' wage per week for a player in the premiership league (eg somebody like Robbie Savage)?
Posted on: 31 January 2008 by scottyhammer
too f****g much if you ask me!!
Posted on: 31 January 2008 by scottyhammer
matt,
i was only pulling your leg mate! Big Grin

Dave,
believe me mate, sitting here all day long, I've thought about all sorts of "wonder if I can do this, get away with doing that, etc including driving. Unfortunately, the answer seems to keep coming up "computer says no".
Presently considering getting a turbo-trainer so I can do some exercise of some description whilst house-bound. One handed indoor cycling.I must be desperate!!
You've got to laugh though.
cheers, Matt.

Still no goalie slot for Robert Green in the latest England squad? What am I missing here?

I agree Matt, but I think Beckham deserved his 100th cap. It wouldn't have harmed to bring him on as a sub. He's been an excellent servant for his country.

For sentimental reasons, I guess golden balls could have been in a squad for a friendly match & bring him on for the last 20 mins or so.
But Capello seems to be using the opportunity to set his stall out for business. He wants a squad containing only fit & ready players. England managers don't get enough time with their squads & it seems he doesn't want to waste time & squad slots on sentimentality.
I'm also not convinced of his overall contribution to the cause. For every "free kick in the last minute to get us into the finals", he's had many games where he has been hapless, & shouldn't have been picked in the first place. I feel that all too frequently he has been picked for sentimentality/ticket sales over realism.

this cappelo chap is ruthless by all accounts and doesnt go along with reputations or sentiments.......just what england need.
he has promised results first, pretty football last ! i agree with you matt - what has robert green got to do to get in the squad ??
i dont get it!

without a doubt ! i mean chris kirkland ? i ask you. Roll Eyes
there is a rumour going round upton park that curbishley does not get on with several players and green is said to hate him!
wonder if thats anything to do with it because i find it very strange that almost everyone rates green very highly and to not even make the squad is beyond me.
arsenal are interested in green and IF he moves to the gooners he will go straight into the england squad. YOU WATCH IF IM NOT RIGHT!!
but i really do hope he stays with us in the end. "ENGLANDS NO.1" as the chant goes.

This is also true in my opinion, and there have been many times when Sven picked him and shouldn't. However, on 99 caps, it is a little harsh not to pick him when the opportunity is there and then to put the Beckham issue away for good. This way we will have the same media circus every time a squad is about to be announced. I would feel the same about any international player. They should be given their 100 caps under similar circumstances.

I agree with the other comments here. It is good that Capello is so ruthless and recks little of reputation.

Robert Green should also be the England 'keeper, I think.
