Well, there seems to be a lot of jumping on the bandwagon of Chelsea's recent struggles, albeit relatively short term, and totally uncalled for.

Mark,

Based on that quote, you are the fucking bandwagon.

Bring something to the table, perhaps?

My my, all this bad language, is it really necessary?

Not based on my quote, Jim, more TV reports I have seen and newspaper articles I have read (also prompted by the couple of posts previous to mine!) where people seem to foresee the demise of Chelsea since the departure of Mourinho. Whether that happens or not remains to be seen, I just voiced my opinion of the general way in which top level football has gone (re the financial influence) and that it would be nice to see a 'big money' club struggling a bit.

It may be unfortunate but it is a fact that wisely-used, money can bring success. Just look at what Sven has achieved at Man City.
Murinho did a superb job at Porto, but at Chelsea, he was spoiled by having a boss with a bottomless pocket. Maybe Sven is just the better manager. I'd love to see him succeed Fergie in a few years at Man U.

Jamie,

The "band wagon jumping irksome little twats" you so eloquently mention probably more fittingly describes the glory hunters who booed Chelsea off the pitch yesterday for, wait for it, OMG, actually not winning a home game. How awful. I wonder where they will all be in a few years time when RA has got bored and left, and all the millions have disappeared? Well, we got a taste for that when a whole 25,000 turned up for the last Champions League game. CHAMPIONS LEAGUE - and that's all that can be bothered to turn up!

id love just one glorious day where we won something that chelsea have enjoyed over the last few years ! i think the fans have had it pretty good and should stop moaning the moment things dont go according to plan. on the way home all you could hear was chelsea fans phoning into talk sport moaning about the game and the state of the club.
i for one dont feel sorry for them and am sure they will come good again soon. a good team doesnt become a bad team overnight.

Very wise words Scotty.

I was gutted when Mourinho left but as you say you take the good with the bad and Chelsea have been very very lucky over the last few years.

Pity the need for point scoring when the chips are down. I'm sure I've seen Man U boo'd off before.

I wish we had Chelsea's problems!

Bernie, sign up Mourinho now!

a win for Everton today, not very entertaining, but you only have to score more than the team you are playing.

...A good rant Mr Wednesday - with some good points well made - but you must have known (like all fans if their club had ended up with a benefactor such as RA)that such suddenly available massive wealth would cause not a little resentment? ...be honest if say RA had decided on Spurs as his favoured club and had "Chelsea like" success wouldn't you be ranting against the White Hart Lane mob's new found glory?

As for a club's history it is indeed almost impossible to quantify it's importance in football terms ...
Some teams like Arsenal have always had that history "thing" ..Herbert Chapman ..Marbled Halls ...double winners etc. etc. ..Man U were always a big club but were propelled into another previously unheard of sphere following the tragedy of Munich.

My team Sunderland (you know the team who's history has done "jack shit" for) were for many years (60+) the ONLY team who had NEVER been out of the top division in England - recent years (ok about 50!) have not been so kind but
I guess what irk's us is that despite the sort of team, manager, and spending power Chelsea have the fans STILL don't turn up in the sort of numbers any REALLY big club (with history!) would expect.

Believe me if (gawd it's a big if!) SAFC had the sort of success CFC have had in recent years we simply would have responded in much larger numbers (yes we really would!)

..And just to underline I ain't biased about this - Newcastle United's crowds for all competitions in recent years (esp Champion's League) have dwarfed Chelsea's - which is where "that history thing" comes in (?)

Hi Jet

It was bloody hard getting a ticket to anything with Chelsea involved last season. The attendance at Stamford Bridge for the minnows of the Champions League was awful, grant you, but it wasn't the norm until that point.

Jay

PS. agree with your other points by the way, it's easy to understand why people don't like Chelsea, believe me!

Wasn't it just a few years ago that everyone was bemoaning the likelihood of a Man U/Arsenal 2-way battle at the start of every season?

Fair point.

BTW, I've been away this weekendn sans TV and radio - who are the top two right now?

Mike
If you were away all weekend and haven't seen your team's latest performance all I can say is roll on Roma!

Which is true ..mebbe's I should have said we had the (at the time) the longest unbroken run in the top flight ...I think Arsenal and Everton were the first 2 clubs to post a longer top division run (?)

I'll always cling desperately to the faint hope that one day they might, though!

To the tune of 'La Donna E Mobile', "We want the special one, we want the special one, we want the special one, we want the special one!"

Oh no, now I'm beginning to sound like a Chelsea supporter!

Bit of a bugger for England and Scotland today. It looks very much like England won't qualify and Scotland will have to beat Italy.

Oh, plop!
