Steve,
I am surprised to hear it - he has always come across as being a most humble chap when I have seen him interviewed. Just goes to show how appearances can be deceptive.

Wembley's going to need returfing when the NFL walruses have finished on it.

I met him at Heathrow a few years back whilst waiting for baggage after getting off the plane. We were the only ones there and I tried to strike up a conversation - no chance. He was a miserable sod, just blanked me.

I once met Trevor Brooking at a fete - a nicer guy you couldn't wish to meet. Other footballers I've met are Eric Gates and Paul Mariner and once again really nice guys. Shame Sir Bobby C couldn't live up to this standard - never met him, but I can well believe all the negative comments about him.

And me. I actually found myself wanting them to win, and that's totally unheard of! Them and Man U are playing some superb football at the moment and next week's game could be a corker. But I have to say that of the two the Arse are playing football from a different dimension. Even Barcelona are not playing the same quality of football, although the y do have better players. Arsenal are a joy to watch.

Well I watched match of the day and I must say what a proud Gooner I am, a new found determination and play for 90 minutes attitude while playing Gorgeous football. Jamie Carragher's a lucky boy with that elbow of his. Though we missed two open goals from rebounds, we should have won but I'm happy with the point. And boys enough of your Arse's thank you! not a pretty sight from way up here, on top of the Premiership.

The first time I "met" a footballing hero of mine (Peter Lorimer) I was in awe, yet he just sat down and had a beer with us and was completely "normal". And some time later when attending an after dinner speach Peter was doing, he recognised me and came over for a chat before the event got underway. Top bloke. He also introduced me to "The Gentle Giant" John Charles, another lovely man.

Hi Steve,
I gave up on football after the Best, Charlton, Law trio broke up and Sir Bobby has been my only enduring footballing hero. I can't imagine what it must be like to be pestered for autographs every five mins or to have people mob me in the streets or slap me on the back as if I am a long lost personal friend but other players seem to manage it with good humour and grace and it is a pity Charlton should be so crap at it. He always seemed to be a complete gentleman on the pitch. Oh well...

munch,
aaahhh im with you now son!
no i didnt get the vouchers as i recall but rail travel was exceptionally cheap anyway in those days especially for football specials....
those wankers from chelsea ended all that though when they decided to wreck the trains on several occasions, therefore br stopped laying them on. talk about bite the hand that feeds them !! the inter city firm used to leave calling cards. but take it from me the mile end mob who preceeded them were much much worse.
oh the good old bad old days eh!
most of that lot are still inside.

innit bloody marvellous!! whilst watching a very poor game last night whu v coventry, we looked down n out at 1-0 down when suddenly it was 1-1. then carlton cole broke away and scored the winner in injury time. in my exitement i launched myself off the sofa to celebrate - tripped on the rug and headbutted the marble fire surround knocking meself out! now i find myself on the growing west ham injury list.
i think im now the 13th. hope curbs doesnt need me on sunday !

No other supporters EVER wrecked anything then?
Where did "Treatment" come from then?

big,h
we are going back to the early 70s so my memories not that great but treatment was either millwall who also had f-troop or the train wreckers !!
now im not saying that west ham fans were angels or better than anyone else but i think they were intelligent enough not to wreck a good thing. literally !

yeah but chelsea fans did the 1st ones, mancs and leeds followed to try to be clever.
Posted on: 31 October 2007 by Bob McC
Worst fans (by arrests) are Man U by a long way.
Posted on: 31 October 2007 by scottyhammer
thats todays figures bob in the 70s it was very different
Posted on: 31 October 2007 by Bob McC
During that year that they spent in Div 2 I remember Man U fans taking away grounds apart. I particularly fondly remember at Norwich watching some RAG moron on the roof of the stand jumping up and down - until he fell through.
Oh how I laughed!

Sorry that should have ICF.
Posted on: 02 November 2007 by scottyhammer
the notorious Inter City Firm followed west ham in the 70s / 80s - their trademark was calling cards. which read congratulations you have just met the ICF !!
nasty basdards who are mostly all inside.
