Diccus,
The ground was half empty by the final whistle. We were truly awful. If the result goes against us at the SOL, I think Big Sam could be on his way.
Unfortunately I am missing the SOL gig this year, for the first time in ages, as I am at an Army reunion for Remembrance day. Could be a blesing!
Going to the Josh Ritter gig at the Sage as the lovely Kate Walsh is support. Taking the wife with me this time. Let me know if you are going.
Regards

Well I must admit to feeling rather pleased tonight with Everton. Two UEFA Cup group games and two good wins should just about see us through to the knockout stages. The team certainly look to be increasing in confidence in Europe, especially after beating Metalist Kharkiv (who I think were a really good team and would still do well in the competition - look out for them in the future).
It is good to see after the way we struggled in Europe a couple of years ago. I think it's true that experience is so important in these competitions, learning how the continental teams play. If I remember correctly Arsenal and Man Utd struggled in their early days of European football (of the modern era) and we have seen Liverpool do better in the Champions League compared to the Premiership.
Just hoping we can keep it going and have a good run in Europe.

P.S. It would be so nice to see the UEFA Cup sitting next to the Carling Cup in the trophy cabinet (cue scottyhammer, lol!!!)

it would be nice to see any form of trophy in our cabinet - its been bare for so long except for the world cup of course !!

Ah yes Sir Alf's world cup - and what team did he used to manage may I ask - sadly we shall never see his like again - a great man: simply the best IMO.
I'd love to see some teams other than the usual crowd win something (a trophy for W-Ham, Newcastle, Sunderland, Everton, Portsmouth or maybe an exciting team from the Championship could win the FA Cup: unlikely as you can't play semi-finals at home.
Mark - why doesn't Victor Anichebe start games? He looks inspirational when he comes on.

Hello again ROTF,
Good question, to which I don't really know the answer. Personally I would favour him over Yakubu (who last night at least dispelled any theories about his lack of workrate) but I suppose it is always going to be easier to come on and look impressive when someone else has already done the donkey work and tired out the defence. Victor made that very point in a story in our local rag (Liverpool Echo) tonight. He does look to be a star of the future though - pace, strength and an eye for goal. I think he is only 19 as well, so surely will only improve with experience.
Anyway, it's only a small matter of Chelsea at the Bridge on Sunday - let's see if our good run can continue. Well, they've got to lose at home some time, lol!!

So .....tomorrow (today?!) is the BIG one .....non-withstanding ROTF's probable "big up" for the agricultural farmers derby ...or the usual claims for the Gooners V Spurs or even Man U v City matches.....the fact remains that aside from Celtic V Rangers (which has a whole load of other unsavoury stuff going on) Saturday's clash between Sunderland and Newcastle is Britain's most intense derby game. ...forget the fact that neither of us have won anything of note since NAIM AUDIO was a but a gleam in Julian Vereker's eye ...forget the fact that neither team is exactly setting the Prem alight ....but believe me when I say that these two teams fans dislike each other's teams with an intensity that is mebbe's not fully understood by those who live outside of Tyne and Wear.
....How important? ...When Kevin Phillips equalised against NUFC at the SOL in Feb 2000 the BBC's outside broadcast engineers were somewhat amazed ....the noise following Phillip's equaliser blew out some of the beeb's new (then) pitch side digital microphones - which simply wasn't thought possible by said engineers ....If you ever get the chance to see (hear) MOTD's footage of THAT goal you can hear the obvious distortion inherent on the soundtrack. ..Predictions? ..no way ..both teams are struggling so I guess a draw look's the most likely result ...but for those looking on tomorrow from a southern (shandy drinking!) England perspective should forget the likely quality of football on display and just listen to the NOISE!

Bugger. A last minute goal by Clinton Morrison when it looked as though QPR were going to hang on for another away victory.

....Well ....was a draw a fair result for the Tyne Wear Derby? ..I guess other's not so involved will have to decide that ....I reckon my Mackems looked far more powerful than those from the dark side but we still lack that crucial touch of class in midfield + defence that leaves us lower in the table than we really should be....
I s'ppose the likes of Nic have to decide what Big Sam's future may be but I get the distinct impression that his players are not really playing for him - there are quality players at his disposal but his tactics are leaving many toon fans distictly baffled ..
...Meanwhile our next home game is against Derby who seem hell bent on bettering (worsening?) our all time lowest points total - if ever there's a game we can't afford not to win......

But you're making progress up the table - getting points away is not easy.

I thought you deserved to win - only saw the highlights, of course - seen Sunderland on the box a few times and thought they deserved more out of those game than they got. Still I think the first season is about consolidating.

Derby County for the Premiership - they're having a laugh. The Rams tried to kick seven bells out of us and their goalkeeper assaulted our centre-half and ....
Derby 0 - 5 West Ham
I rest my case - they shouldn't be there and their fans know it (and say it openly: an honest crowd).
West Ham played well, but Derby were/are just plain awful.

I agree Scotty and you did - you played them off the park without most of your first choice players.
