nas upnp search function

Posted by: balma01 on 29 November 2010

I'm testing 2 different upnp servers: "minidlna" installed on a vortexbox linux machine and "asset upnp" running on an xp pc. Both works well with my naimuniti (not yet 3.0): from the little display of the uniti I can browse the tree of the servers and choose the artist/album/song to play...
Now I'm testing the search function and I see that I can easily search from the uniti inside the "asset upnp" tree but there's not any search function from the uniti inside the "minidlna", so, I guess, that the search function is something built into the upnp server and not into the upnp client.
If my supposition is true the question is directed to the upnp NAS owners: from the naim uniti (or unitiqute) is it possible to make some search to your upnp NAS? If yes which kind of search is possible to do with your nas? Thnaks in advance and regards. MB

If I display the list of artists and then presse the M key on the remote, I get Mozart and other artists where the name begins with M or later letters in the alphabet.

I have always assume that this search was done by the Uniti rather than the Upnp server.

If you want to see what your Upnp servers are doing you can do this with the Developer tools for UPnP at:

I use miniDLNA/Vortexbox and can search within n-stream although it is a bit clunky it stll works better than Eyeconnect.

The search process works far better with Apple Remote2 and ITunes although VB's DAAP server goes some way to helping.
