Can anyone recommend a good 32" flatscreen,please?
Posted by: daryl on 18 May 2008
Hi,i am looking to buy a 32" flatscreen.
My main priority is to have very good picture quality with standard dvd and freeview.
Lcd or plasma?personally not sure, what i have noticed is that there is less reflections in bright rooms but the blacks are not as black with lcd.
I already own a 42" panasonic plasma and i am very happy with it.
The only 32" i have tried at home was a LG 32lc56 lcd and it was really bad,it was about 400 pounds, which i originally wanted to spend.
Will i have to spend alot more to get a good one,1080 would be nice for the future, but not essential at present.
So any recommendations would be appreciated,i am thinking Panasonic, but who knows.
Thanks for any replies, Daryl .

I have a Panasonic TX-32LXD 700 and am perfectly happy with it. I believe it has been superseded by a Full HD model with FreeSat, which is probably even better. The Panny can upscale to 1080p at 24 fps, which I told is important and means it would work with BR and so on. It works well with DVDs of Danger Man, The Prisoner, The Saint and so on and The Trueman Show looks fine on it.

Amazon is selling the one I have for £649.99 - seems a bit steep to me. The reviewers on Amazon seem to agree with me - make sure any price includes a 5-year guarantee.
Ironically, the newer Panasonic TX-32LZD80 - 32" Widescreen 1080p Full HD LCD TV with Freeview is £635 from the same place. I think the RRP is £900+.
Panasonic TX-32LZD85 - 32" Widescreen Viera 1080P Full HD LCD TV with Freeview is £780.

The thing is daryl specifically asked for standard def DVD and freeview performance. I agree that the lzd85 is a very good performer for higher res but I'm not sure that all the extra work it needs to do to upscale standard pictures. If daryl really wants to stick to standard definition, he might be better off buying a standard definition screen or normal HD screen to reduce the work needing to be done and improve the picture quality from lower def sources.

May I recommend the TV I bought not so very long ago - the Sony 32D3000.
It has 1080i resolution (1366 x 768), so HD-ready rather than Full-HD but I think it is capable of wonderfully crisp and natural looking pictures - I think the inbuilt Freeview tuner is excellent too.
The model is a bit long in the tooth now so has doubtless been superseded, which means that if you manage to locate one you will probably end up with a bargain.

Another vote from me. The best LCD I have seen, please avoid the Sonys as they are not a patch on this one.

Hi all, well thanks again for the replies.
I went and had a look at some tv's and have to say ,Panasonic definetly gets my money again.
Although the Panasonic tx-32lxd700 is excellent,i have bought a tx-32lmd70a lcd because it also is very good and a bit cheaper and like i said it,s for standard dvd and freeview which it does the job very well, and i am really pleased with it especially for 499 pounds.
It is far superior to the LG i tried in every way.
See ya,s Daryl.
