A short stay in Switzerland

I don't know if it's me getting older, but that was one hell of a moving drama. Julie Walters was on top form.

Why are topics closed so soon? This was only a few weeks ago.

I cried my eyes out, I feel another BAFTA coming for Julie (surely Dame Julie soon).

A very serious issue dealt with in a serious way - it is a scandal that people have to travel to Switzerland at such times. I certainly want to retain the right to end my life in the manner and time of my choosing if the quality of my life falls below the level which I feel is tolerable. It is nobody else's decision except mine.

I've not watched the programme yet but was very moved recently by a documentary on the same subject following the death of a Canadian(?) in Switzerland.
I was touched both by the empathy shown by the Swiss participants in,and by the bravery of the gentleman taking the 'final' journey.
In Scotland at the moment there is a private members bill comming to the parliament on euthanasia. This is being brought by Margot McDonald, a member with a terminal illness. Whilst I agree with the sentiment of the bill I think I would feel better if it were brought to the vote by someone not driven by self interest.
That said I feel the right to end ones life should be in the hands(sic) of the individual along with medical supervision (and reasoning), in a method similar to the Swiss (and Dutch) systems.
Medically assisted suicide should be for medically qualified illnesses and not as a method to relieve the burden on families. I feel that the Swiss system at least recognises this point.

It absolutely felt like it was real and not a drama. Julie Walters WAS Ann Turner. I talked to many people who couldn't bear watching it. It was unbearably sad but death rarely isn't. I too blubbed.

I too would vote for a safe system of vol euthanasia in this country. A life of terminal pain no thank you.
