Is Tom Cruise Completely Barmy?

Barmy enough for Paramount to dump one of its biggest earners. He's been loopy for years, why has it taken Paramount so long to realise this?

Presumably they thought there was money to be made out of him, a net gain of benefit over cost. Now, presumably they think differently, but why? What has happened?

IMHO, yep, barmy barmy barmy.
It all comes down to money. As long as he's a bankable star, keep him & tolerate barmyness. When his bankability drops, lose him. Hollywood revolves around the dollar, no more, no less.

Generally, increasingly flaky outbursts. Criticising Brooke Shields for taking anti-depressants was, apparently, the last straw for Paramount.

Behold, the bottom line:

"It's nothing to do with his acting ability, he's a terrific actor," Redstone said. "But we don't think that someone who effectuates creative suicide and costs the company revenue should be on the lot."

He could be as mad as a bag of snakes as long as he made money for Paramount.

From the NYTimes
(registration required)But Paula Wagner, Mr. Cruise’s partner in Cruise-Wagner Productions, said in an interview Tuesday that she and Mr. Cruise had, sometime “in the last few days,” told their agents at Creative Artists Agency to inform Paramount that they were terminating the contract talks.

At least this provides a hypothesis.

What an idiot.
Overpaid, overpraised, believes he knows it all and thinks we'll benefit from his knowledge.
Good for Paramont, dropping this turd will hopefully make some other celebs keep their useless advice and attitudes to themselves.

Imagine him on this forum...

"You don't know the history of HiFi. I do."

Ugh!

Paramount were a bit pissed that he made more money than them from MI:3.

I read an article recently describing holywood's approach to lowering actors cuts from movies - aparrently they're not making enough (not surprising considering most of the output is complete pap these days) and so have initiated the 'drive down wages' campaign.

Paramount had given cruises' production company notice and kicked them out of their offices on one of the main lots a while ago. He won't care, he has enough dough to make his own movies.

criticising anyone for taking antidepressants is poor form - whether in holywood or not.

cruise has enough money to behave however he wants (without impinging on the rights of others, of course!) and not care what others think. "luxury he can afford".

regardless of his acting ability (or lack of) he's more entertaining than most "celebrities". and I'm no fan.

cheers!

Anyone see yesterday's Metro, which has a picture of him jumping around like a crazed buffoon on the Oprah Winfrey show whilst apparently proclaiming his love for Katie Holmes?

What a twat - albeit a very rich twat.

Yes, completely barking, but he was married to Nicole Kidman, then squired Penelope Cruz and now he's covering Katie Holmes. It's tough, but someone's got to do it!

Story in Saturday's Telegraph was that he upset the female head of Paramount by criticising Brooke Shields for taking medication for post natal depression.

Very barmy and his acting is not exactly inspired either.
