Radio stations in NZ

What sort off radio stations are there in New Zealand ?. Are they all commercial stations with adverts. Or do they have a National service, such as the BBC with Radio's 1,2,3 etc.

And what about Digital (DAB) as I believe they have digital in Australia.

As we are about to move to New Zealand, and I am about to buy a new tuner, either a Denon TU260L or a DAB tuner if appicable.

Mike,

Greetings. There is a National Radio station and a Concert Network too. The rest is a mix of commercial and small alternative stuff. No DAB though and from what I read not likely either.

Chris.

depends which part of the country you intend settling in - it's a small place after all.

Try listening on the following link - If this doesn't scare you too much, Radio Active provides variety to wellingtonians. FCKN A

...and besides, there's always internet radio Wink

The National Program, which is the equivalent to BBC, is in AM only, which is why I haven't got a Naim tuner.

As above, mostly crappy commercial stations with their allotted markets ie.rock, pop, 60's-99 etc. If you are in one of the bigger centres try GEORGE FM (107.3 in Hamilton, 96.8 in Auckland, 107.4 in Wellington, 93.6 in Queenstown). Very chilled station with lots of new and old Jazz as well as lounge and dance(rather than D&B). Recently had a free concert in Auckland with Giles Peterson DJing. You can get a live stream from www.georgefm.co.nz/georgefm

Well, well, you learn something new every day!

Thanks Keith for the George FM lead - I've just tuned the 03 in and it took me a good half a minute to get it from Active 89.0 to 107.4 on the dial! Something to be said for presets!

Not very strong signal though. I am only using an internal aerial, but Active comes through loud and clear.
