Bare Naked Ladies

I just listened to Gordon tonight for the first time in ages. It seemed to get buried and almost lost. I'd forgotten how good it is and finally mean to get some more of them. Where should I start?

Yes, "Gordon" is probably their best, I think mostly because it was their first album, and as such, was assembled from the best of their bastion of existing tracks. They were having lots of fun, and that comes through in the music. The writing on future albums is actually better technically, but seems a bit more self-conscious.

"Born on a Pirate Ship" is probably my least favorite, although it's got a few good tracks. "Maybe you should drive" is actually quite a bit better, but as UV says, Stunt is a better album overall. I would place "Maroon" somewhere between BOAPS and MYSD.

If you like the Barenaked Ladies, definitely check out The Brothers Creeggan. It's Jim and Andy from the original line-up. Overall, they work is quite stupendous. Musically it travels many miles. They aren't trying to pigeonhole themselves into a particular style; instead, they just play whatever suits their fancy. For more info, check out www.brotherscreeggan.com. You can purchase their albums directly from them, and I believe at least the latest is available through some of the "normal" channels.

Agree with the above assessments of BNL.

Thanks Mike for an excellent post - the final para is an example of this forum at it's best.
