Miles Davis - 50th Anniversary Set

Is it worth having? Doesn't seem to offer much more than nice packaging, so do I need this given that I have pre- and post-pitch corrected CD and vinyl and probably even cassette lying around?

Probably not. There is no doubt Sony are milking this album for all they can. Depends how much you want the blue vinyl, DVD, booklet, outtakes etc. I will take a look today and then no doubt succumb.

Probably not. Anyway, if it is a limited edition, then maybe it will have some value further down the road. Hope all is well. Enjoy.
Cheers

The reviews on Amazon.com are pretty lukewarm - apparently the audio material is already available, and the packaging is quite silly, resulting in the CDs/DVDs easily getting scratched.

There's more to Jazz than Miles Davis.

This is so, but to miss his work is to omit a huge part of the history of the genre as well as some of its most exhilarating music. So many contemporary jazz musicians have been influenced directly or indirectly by him.

Very well put. Back to the box set so - I will give it a pass as well, even so I'm a completist.quote:Originally posted by Michael Trotz:quote:Originally posted by willem:

Oliver - the voice of reason, funds redirected elsewhere.

I made the same decision. I have it on CD three times, on vinyl, a book called Kind of Blue and so on.
I am buying a Keith Jarrett ticket instead.

Didn't realize that linked to damaged copy. There are undamaged versions to be had out there.

I bought the Quiex vinyl instead, in a moment of vinyl madness yesterday. Sounds none too shabby, better than the nice price vinyl edition that was my first own "owned" version of this album.
