Unchained melody...AAAHHHhhhh...NNOOooooo.

Just 'cos that moron from the Self-righteous Bros has died, do we really have to hear that awful vocal acrobatic Karoke favorite all over Christmas? Please God No. Mad

I dread to think what will happen when Elton John dies.

Rasher:

Blimey. What did he do to provoke that reaction? I'm not arguing with you - just curious.

Oh, I don't know ... it's a well written piece of music; the unusual chord progression on the bridge is especially lovely.

I like Joni Mitchell's version (well, she quotes a portion of it within a song of her own, Chinese Café).

But speaking as a musician who occasionally accompanies some great singers singing this song, it can be quite powerful and heartfelt; if they truly nail that ultimate high note (I need your love) without overdoing it, I get the gooseflesh.

You are all mad

This is a great song.

With particularly stunning versions by Gareth Gates and Robson and Jerome.

Thank you Rasher. I have hated this song for a long, long time. It's a mournful yet overblown dirge.Even the chord progression is somehow more interesting arpeggiated, when it becomes 'House of the Rising Sun' more or less.

Hmm, is there a thread in 'allegedly classic songs that turn you right off' ?

chances are El Tone (should he still be around) will say something about him being (mutatis mutandis) a prince of the people...

There is now.

Rasher, I think you have lost that loving feeling!
Sorry about the pun - I also hate Unchained Melody but in a positive mode about The Righteous Brothers I think "You've lost that loving feeling" is one of the all time greats.
Part of the soundtrack of my youth!

Lighten up, there is room for everyone!

Bobby Hatfield. His name was Bobby Hatfield.

I figure if his work was significant enough (significantly good or bad, you decide) to warrant a thread, we could at least do him the honor of using his name (as opposed to, for example, "that moron").

R.I.P.

It was unwarranted to call him "that moron", and I have no real idea about the guy - but he has to take some responsibility for that song...so bollox.

I hope Bobby Hatfield rests in peace. Elton John will never die, he'll replace all defective bits as necessary.

Saying that - I award the SUN newspaper the accolade of sickest headline relating to his death :

"You've lost the living feeling !"

Not very nice but could be the start of a really good thread.......

Yeah - never heard of them before Ghost; never wanted to hear them again since.

All the same, the guy had a good voice and it's always a shame when a talented performer dies...

Mind you, as others have said, he HAS to take responsibility for that song...

Mmmm - Demi Moore, from when she wasn't made of your flexible friend (plastic!) - well, at least not as much as now Wink Love the bit where the computer "types itself" - great special effects Wink
