There was also an EMI sampler called Super Guitar Soukous released a few years ago which is worth checking out.

I appreciate the response and hope to hear from others here. I was surprised that a search on the Forum produced zero previous posts on Soukous or these artists.

The Rough Guide album has tracks from all: Franco (with Sam Mangwana on "Cooperation" from their 'Franco/Sam Mangwana' album), Kanda Bongo Man ("Sai" from the various artists album 'Soukouss Paris' on Sonodisc), and Tabu Ley 'Rochereau' ("Sarah" from the album with the same title). All of these are highlights on the sampler.

I've placed an online order for another Rough Guide sampler of Franco's music. It was compiled by Graeme Ewens, who also did the same work on the CD I have now. Ewens also wrote a biography of Franco that now appears out of print. (If anyone knows where I can get a copy pls PM me).

I also added a copy of Kanda Bongo Man "Soukous in Central Park" to the order.
