Help - very vague music question from my daft mate

Posted by: Sir Crispin Cupcake on 21 July 2005

Hi all,

I've had an e-mail out of the blue from an old mate of mine. He remembers a listening session round mine (years ago) and wants to buy some music we were listening to. I haven't a bloody clue, but from the information provided can anyone suggest any possible contenders? (I've sent this to my sister as well btw). Any suggestions gratefully received. The e-mail conversation went like this:

Matt: hi there - another question for ya - do you remember your sister had some great blues/jazz album that some big ole black mama sang on and I made a tape for make-out purposes - can you remember the name of the recording artist? Hopefully you can, cos i need another make out tape, and bad!
take it easy and hope you're enjoying yourself

Me: Could be Etta James or someone like that. Can you remember any song titles or anything, to narrow things down a bit?
Rich

Matt: it wasn't her, that I know. apart from that, i got nothing. 1950/60's though - i'm rubbish, i do realise that

Me: Hmm - I'm racking my brains. Can you remember if it was an LP or CD or tape? Would you recognise her name if you heard it again?

Matt: it was an LP, i'm pretty certain i'd remember the name

Big Mama Thornton if it was bluesy, possibly Sarah Vaughan for jazzy and Mahalia Jackson if gospelly

All reasonably well endowed ladies that seem to fit the bill - not that I am in any position to cast stones Roll Eyes

Huwge,

Many thanks for that - he reckons Mahalia Jackson was the diva in question and passes on his gratitude.

I'm sure Mahalia Jackson passes on her gratitude too! Cool
