SL1200 Horror.

I thought I'd put this here rather than in HiFi Corner because it's more a little project for me than anything to do with Naim and my main HiFi.

A mate at work contacted me because he'd just got a couple of SL1200s and he said one of the RCAs needed replacing, I've now got the deck and just had to share.

Poor deck has not been looked after, check out the cart.

Held together with tape and at quite a radical alignment.

Needless to say the fault isn't the RCA but a break between the connector on the arm and the external cable, so I've a nice little job on my hands.

No good deed goes unpunished.

So that is what all this talk of radicals is about?

You see. Setting up a TT really isn't a job for the amateur. Should have gone to dealer.

That was set up by a dealer......a drug(ged) dealer.

Maybe get some new cartridge tags and a new Audio Technica AT95 cartridge, the 2 items should be no more than 30 pounds.

Good luck.

I've pointed him towards some cheap carts to get him started and I've got a Linn K9 that I can use for testing once I've fixed the wiring break.

I'm quite impressed with the quality of the build on this thing, it's a proper tank of a deck.

And if you really want to go crazy with an SL1200, go to sound hi-fi in the UK. They've got some great mods for the deck. Fantastic!

Well after some messing around the problem is just with the RCA cable from the deck, got to love intermittent faults. Just need to check with the owner now if he will order a new cable or wants me to use whatever I've got around. The deck looks so much better with the K9 sat on the end of the arm.
