Which would you choose?

Has anyone had a listen to a CD5i yet? If yes,
how did it compare to the CD5. I am about to upgrade my Rega Planet for one of the Naim players. Is the only difference between them the fact that the 5 is able to take a power supply or is there more to it?

Any comments would be appreciated....Thanks.

I have not listened to the CD5i yet but I would like to comment. When you say:

It does'nt sound like much but with all Naim kit the addition of external power supplies brings significant gains in performance.
This is particularly true of the CD players.
I urge you to pick up a few of your favorite CD's and get thee along to your local Naim dealer and even if he does'nt have a CD5i get him to demo a CD5 with & without a power supply. Also ask him to plug in a Flatcap first then swap it for a HiCap. You should hear the differences.
After you have done that you will be better equipped to decide between the CD5i and the CD5.
If funds are limited you can always look for a 2nd hand CD5 if the sound appeals but the new price does'nt.
On the other hand you may feel the CD5i is for you but you will be choosing with full information.

Good luck

Personal experience suggests that having the facility to add a Cap is significant. Good though my CD5 was for the price, hooking up a HiCap about doubled the enjoyment. That said, I haven't heard a CD5i.

Thanks for replying,

I'm leaning toward the CD5. As J.N. says, " You know it makes sense". Or does it?
