Pink Floyd HDCD

Posted by: Consciousmess on 24 February 2006

Hi everyone,

Im a proud owner of a Naim system and also love Pink Floyd music. Now Ive seen on a couple of occasions limited edition Pink Floyd CDs recorded in HDCD. I would love to own this, but Im slightly dubious. Does anyone know whether they are genuine? I tried to rationalise it by thinking that they may have made only a few as market wise not that many people would want to buy HDCD versions if they were happy with the standard CD.

Are these peoople just printing HDCD so it is bought or are they genuinely recorded HDCD?

Id be really grateful to any advice you can give!

Cheers,

Jon

I know that DSOTM and (I think) also Wish You Were Here were both rereleased on SACD to mark their 30th birthdays (and also rereleased on vinyl). For what it's worth, some people have been pretty unkind as to how the DSOTM SACD sounds as compared with the original (though personally I prefer it - the CD layer that is, since I have no SACD player). However, I don't know of any HDCD releases. Mike presumably would though.

Out of interest, where is it that you've seen these?

regards, Tam

Consciousness, I'm 99.9% certain this is a fake, probably from Taiwan. AVOID!!!

The Floyd are very careful about releasing/rereleasing their records. The length of time James Guthrie has been working on the SACD version of Wish You Were Here is testament to that.

The best version of The Wall on CD is the Mobile Fidelity gold edition - now deleted and worth several hundred pounds sealed - but excellent sound quality.
