System pictures
Posted by: Alco on 20 February 2001
No, i don't have any questions about what to upgrade next or some audioproblems what so ever.
But, I am building up a "strange collection"...
I'm saving all kinds of pictures of (mostly) Naim-systems.
Who wants to post a picture of his Naim-system
on the forum ??
(y'all can count me in too, as soon as I bring
my film to the photoshop)
I just love to drool (did I spell it right?)
over those pics of all that Naim stuff housed in the right furniture, combined with nice speakers and set up in the right/nice environment.
am I a weirdo,or am I not alone on this issue,haha
Well, see y'all
Greetings,
Alco.
/Erik
btw: nice woodfeneer on the DBL's.
I just made some "new" pics of my little system.
Here's a picture I took 30 minutes ago from my
Kan's after a recent (light) "cherry" look makeover. (only 2,- UKP,for both Kan's!)
ok,it's fake,I know,but looks better than the dull,el cheapo black ![]()
my beloved Naity with a Kan, close-up. (well,as close-up as I could possibly get with my humble digicam
)
Now,...Just about 1 hour ago i saw an ad on the internet. My little "dreamhouse" (as far as my budget is involved) is for sale in the centre of town, just underneath a (girl)friend o' mine.
I'll check it out,ASAP. If the deal is on,I'll be moving (well, after I sold my current flat, that is
)
So, IF all goes well, There will be a whole new set of system-piccies from me in a new house.
Greeting,Y'all
Alco
Wonder if you are still building up your naim system picture, here is mine, anyway.
I guess you forgot to post your pic,but I'm not building up a collection for my flatearth-audio site anymore. My site already had a reasonable (sorted) picture-gallery,but the website got deleted about 4 weeks ago
Those mothe.......s at MSN-communities!
Every time I try,I get the message "sorry, whe can't find this page" or something like "check your spelling" Yup,I guess that's the price people have to pay after a while, for free webspace...
Regards,

I did some of the bigger pictures back. Some of you want to see the 'Iron Mountain' even bigger. ![]()
Cheers

I think you will find that Ulrich Hohn had the cases of his electronics damped in packets of fine sand (specifically chosen) and then in tuned boxes. I think he has also experimented with springs.
He is the master tweaker and makes most of us look tame. I believe Joel B went heard his system and was very impressed.
I also recall he tweaked the SBL's by mounting the tweeter boxes to the wall, damping the cabinets and mounting the speakers on something.
Respect.

Dev
The bigger photo's link doesn't work. Will be glad to see the bigger picture.

Patrick,
the first link doesnt work. The link is wrong but later provided a working link. All links of my system are working.
I canceled the links of Guddys system because of diskspace.
Enjoy
Hermann
Thanks, the photos are great.
Cheers,
Patrick
Next to this box, you can see part of a previous project using it's smaller 21" brother. Disney also use this driver in their theme parks. Explosions & stuff. I understand they may start to use the new, bigger driver now it's available.
Please note that the big box is one of a stereo pair!
Each driver is capable of 60mm+ of travel, but only a couple of mm of that is needed to produce structural damage (mainly a cracked window frame, so far).
It's mad!
You may recongise the guy (who occaisionally appears here as 'SJB', BTW), as his system, including DIY speakers, was recently featured in HiFi news.
cheers, Martin
P.S. they sound superb in his home cinema setup. Didn't try them on music.

I'd not really come across drivers this big before, either.
It has about 2.5-3x the radiating area of a 15" driver, and a lot more driver excusrion, too!

This week I tried a different setup in my room, for my Naim system.
In the 'before' situation I had my speakers at both sides of a fireplace and the listening couch against the wall.
Now, in the improved 'after' situation my speakers are placed about 30 more cm's (12") from each other, with their back about 45cm from the window.
The listening chair (not a very comfy one) is placed about 3 meters from the speakers and with the back about 1 meter from the rear wall.
In this new setup, the performance of, my Sonus Faber "Concertino's" improved a lot!
They now present a far wider and deeper soundstage and the muddy, fat, slow bass has gone.
(even though the bass is still fat, heavy when I stand up from my chair!
I added some new system pics to show what I mean:
(btw:sorry, the quality of the pics is not that good, due to a poor digi-cam)
See ya'

Alco
poor picture quality though...
I will try that, but isn't it so that toeing in speakers will give more bass, instead of less ?
(I was always told so)
o,well. I'll try it anyway, it's the cheapers tweak there is,eh!

Alco
what happened to the AudioNotes?
Doesn't it drive you nuts having your CDX at almost floor level?
Hope your knees are in good shape..
The AudioNote's are back at the dealer. I only got 'em for a week hometrial. I was very impressed by the AudioNotes, but now that I've my SF's in their new position, they completely transformed.
(and to be honest, in the end I'm afraid I couldn't live with the horrible, cheap bulky looks of the AN's.
Hi Redey,
haha, yeah, my knees will get plenty excersize this way. I do want another rack someday though.
regards,
Alco
