Support tables

Chaps

I have been away on business for the last couple of days and when I got home, I had a parcel which contained a Townsend s/sink table which I bought secondhand.

These tables come in different sizes to accomodate the weight of the black box which is plonked on them. The one I ordered was the smallest one which accomodates items up to 8 kilograms in weight.

Tony from Hifi choice forum brought a similar table with him just for demonstration purposes and it made a useful improvement when placed under my CDS11 which is housed on a Hutter rack.

The CDS11 is right up to the 8 kilo limit, so I tried the Townshend under the CD3.5 which is on top of a Mana Soundframe which in turn is on top of a Sound Organisation table. The CD3.5 is much lighter in weight.

So I removed the Mana and replaced it with the Townshend and the difference in sound was enormous. The Townshend has made everything better and more natural sounding by a massive degree. The system is so much more listenable than before.

My two sons were in the house at the time and both of them said it was damn good and agreed it trashed the Mana. It certainly looks a lot better.

I shall buy a larger version for the CDS11 when I come back from holiday.

If anyone wants a Mana soundframe, make me an offer, but I fly out Thursday, so be quick.

Regards

Mick

Hi Stallion,

I always heard about 3M rubber feet, where can I get them (just ordinary stationery shop?), what exactly do they look like? And how much are they, I assume they are not expensive at all.
I will certain give them a go.

Refer to someone else's comments on CDSII on glass. I thought fraim also use glass shelves? No? perhaps better quality ones.

cheers

Hi Stallion/James,

Even though I am not using any mana rack at the moment? I might in the future, but more likely that I will get Fraim sometime next year.

But If I get them outside, where should I look?
I believe that that the 3M feet are specially made for the CDSII feet? or well similar shape.

I can't wait to get hold of them.

cheers

I can certainly vouch for the fact that the Townshend makes a difference. The question is whether you like the change it makes. I thought it was a good difference under equipment, an amazingly good difference as a Seismic Sink Stand and a bad difference under speakers. (i.e. I don't like it under speakers.)

With equipment, it seems to make background silences quieter, improve resolution and timing. With speakers it loses leading edge information, smearing the timing in the process.

That's my view!

Frank.

So less musicality?

Dev - surprised your still lacking the musical flow, I found more Mana = More Musicality. Have you been shuffling rack around (settle-in ?).

I liken it to the cds/52 trick, in terms of PRaT, where the whole presentation seems to flow effortless, but each strand of the music takes on it own timing/texture, rather than just everything being thrown at you (which strangely most people attribute to Mana - but I found the opposite).
