Amazing old discovery!

Posted by: garyi on 13 April 2002

Was down in Wilton near salisbury today and found a second hand record/cd shop.

I discovered an album that a few years ago I really wanted to get hold of but consequently forgot about.

Anyhoo it was in there for a fiver, Mother Earth: The People Tree.

I remember why I wanted it now its excellent, do these guys still exist?

hi Garyiii
I have that album too, it's just gorgeous laced funk/jazz, with cool female vocals too in places.

Missed a copy on vinyl though :-(. I have the next one they did too on vinyl( err..'you have been watching', not as good IMHO, but still worth a listen..Matt Deighton the guitasrist left, and went to play with Paul Weller.

Mother Earth used to do a few classics of theirs like 'Stone Woman' ( well a Santana ripp off riff I think)

Enjoy!
Cheers
Goose

PS Chris Maitland has left Porcupine Tree, gutted!

garyi,

Care to enlighten us as to where this record/CD is in Wilton (or is the town/village small enough to find it without help)?

Cheers,

Chris L

Chris, Wilton you know where the carpets come from?

Get on the A36 heading for warminster, you will go through Salisbury on its internal ringroad, (don't ask) then the next town you hit is wilton turn left at the roundabout heading for wilton house, follow the road round to a set of traffic lights, straight over and its next door to the wine shop.

Its not massive mind but plenty of good quality vinyl

I was surprised to hear about Chris too - he was really into the Tree and they've just signed to Atlantic. I spoke to Tim last night and he said that the drummer he and Richard Barbieri used on 'Flame' was playing with them now (Gavin Harrison (ex Level 42). Not sure it that is a permenant position.

I'll keep you posted.

Regards

Stephen

I know where Wilton is (in fact, there are two in Wiltshire!), I've just never been through it, that I've noticed.

I usually try to avoid the A36 as I always seem to hit really bad traffic on it.

Thanks for the directions, I'll check it out.
