Help - need an electrician.
Posted by: Jim J on 30 March 2005
I hope this doesn't infringe Adam's mains rules. I don't want to discuss any specifics, what I need is an electrician to update my mains and make sure all is legal and safe.
This is because the electician I had lined up has let me down at the last minute (grrrr!) and the new caprets are due next Tuesday.
So can anyone recommend an electrician in the Blackpool and surrounding area that is symapthetic to mains installations specific to HiFi?

No problem with this post.
I have spoken to a few customer's electricians and, within my limited competence and without going "too far", usually explain that - the current demand of the collected equipment should NOT be used to determine the "sensible" limits on the wiring and that (if they feel at ease with any requests) they should avoid lightning protection (I would welcome some information on this) and treat the installation as if it were for a cooker or similar.
All have understood the advantages of "over" specced runs.

Thanks Gianluigi. Not sure these guys actually do anything with the incomming mains, however they're based in Sheffield, which is quite far away from me.
Thanks Adam - my competence is also limited hence the need for a sympathetic electrician.
I may have found one, however I need to wait a month for his next available slot. This means I'll need to lift the (new) carpets for him to gain access, much to my wife’s chagrin.
