DVD5 vs CD5X
Posted by: David S Patterson on 10 March 2009
I need a new CD player as my trusty AA5 is starting to malfunction.I want to pitch in at 2nd hand CD5X price range, but the DVD5 is about the same 2nd hand.Is it true that CD performance is about the same with both.
Thanks

No - the DVD5 is of similar sound quality to the older CD5.
It is therefore somewhat behind the CD5x.

Behind or just different? That is the question...
David, audition it, you might even prefer it!

Hi
I have been in the same situation - tempted by a s/h DVD5. Try it out and you'll find the DVD5 very slow in operation compared to CD5x - it takes very long to load a CD - it annoyed me.
Best regards

Hi,
I've had both standalone and HiCapped CD5, a CDX2 plus subsequent XPS and now just a DVD5 for all. In a way the one I loved most was the CD5, though the CDX2 is objectively a superior machine.
The DVD5, though, despite its >crankiness< (quoting a well known british HiFi magazine), is IMHO perfectly apt to simple music replay.
It's sensitive to power chord. In case, I have a suggestion.

It happened that I had the chance to compare both the DVD5 and CD5 (bare). Where the DVD5 had a crunchy and exciting sound, the CD5 had better timbres but was somewhat slowing down things. Soundwise, I'm slotting up the DVD5 between the first version of the CD5i and
the CD5x.
Bye.

Its not possible to audition one against the other when secondhand is it.My local dealer Robert ritchie (from who i have purchased a pile over the years) has both and is dealer par excellance, but, no way would i even ask him to demo both when i would not purchase from him, its just bad form.
I feel sorry for these guys getting abused, especially whenfolk purchase from commet, currys and then go and ask a specialist when they cannot get their "bargains" to function properly.

No content, CD5x trounces DVD5.
Given that DVD5 is bloody good. Gives cd 3, 3.5, cd5, original cd5i a run for the money. Haven't heard the 5 italic, and it kills the original 5 without a flatcap.
In picture quality, beats the 555 LOL. Ok I couldn't resist that.
