Out of balance speakers

Posted by: BigH47 on 03 April 2003

If I have the speakers setup with speaker A on the left balance is set between 11-12 o'clock with speaker A on the right the balance point is about 2 o'clock plus. This speaker does not sound any different to the other just less loud. I had a similar problem years ago with AR2AX's when a tweeter went but you could hear that distorting.
Any ideas?

Howard,

Did you just move the speaker, leaving it hooked up to the same amp output, or did you switch output as well?

This is now the third thread regrading balance problems in the past 2 weeks.

Thomas I swopped the speakers over ie made the right channel the left and vice versa.Changed the speaker cables over on the amp, and then moved the speakers over.

OK, it was just an idea -- could have been the amp, but I suppose it's definitely the speaker then. If it was a Naim speaker I'd suggest swapping the Xovers, but I think with the Keosas they're inside the cabinet, right?

Yes internal x-overs. What would a reversed speaker symptom be?

Sounds to me like they might be out of spec. Of course, you could just setup the amp with the balance in the right place, but if it bugs you then take them back to the dealer and ask for them to be checked if possible. I couldn't see what the specifications should be, but I get the feeling this is out of spec...
