i-tunes artwork

Posted by: Rockingdoc on 22 September 2006

I couldn't be arsed to feed my i-pod with covers downloaded one at a time from Amazon, so the new feature on i-tunes is great for me. But, why are there such glaring omissions? I mean no Beatles covers at all, no AC/DC etc. I'm guessing some record companies/artists won't let i-tunes sell their wares. Are they mad? My current fave listen, Imogen Heap, has built her career on download sales and I can't imagine the dinosaurs are opposed to enhancing their pension schemes, so what gives?

Don't know about AC/DC but the Beatles is down to the fact that the artwork is only for CDs sold on itunes (so it will probably not all that helpful with some of my more obscure classical discs). The Beatles have never been on itunes, in part due to the legal dispute about use of the name 'apple'. Now that they've lost that, I would have thought they'd see sense and make the stuff available. But I wouldn't hold your breath.

regards, Tam

Doesn't seem to be any logic to what is there and what isn't. The Presidents of the United States of America "pure Frosting" art is there "2" isn't. Obscure local (Northern Ireland) artist CD covers are but some major international ones aren't.

Regards,

Willy.

Basically Lennon's old bunny boiler wife is refusing to allow the beatles onto itunes.

Its not a download thing just and Apple thing haha.

If you are using a mac get a copy of iTunes Catalog which will surf the whole interweb for your covers not just the music store.

Well that explains the Beatles, but no AC/DC? You'd imagine they'd get a few downloads from the kids. Perhaps not?

Having downloaded the covers to iTunes, how do I get them onto my iPod? Did not seem to happen when I synched it (even with the updated iPod software).

I do like the new iTunes interface though, especially scrolling through the album 'covers'. Shame so many are missing though.

Do you have kids who download music?
We have our own teenagers, they have lots of friends. As our house has thin walls, I think we may have some idea of what they listen to.
Also, my wife teaches in a large Comprehensive and I run into quite a few yoofs in my line of work. There are more teenage boys sporting AC/DC patches than you would imagine.

p.s I have a System of a Down CD

I too love looking at the cover artworks, in I-tunes and on my new 80gb pod. AC\DC seem not to have signed up to itunes hence the omission. They are in the minority though, so shouldn't take too long to find a good image of them on the web. btw, ironically the ac\dc amazon images are too small.
Off topic but I'm convinced my new ipod is not sounding as good as my old 2gen 20gb Frown
Maybe it will 'burn in'.
Paul.

The general view is that the current ipods don't sound as good.
There's no Led Zep. I suppose the kids have never heard of them either. They must be too busy downloading the likes of Nanci Griffith and Shawn Colvin 'cos all of their covers appear.

Personally I would prefer ACDC, I think heavy metal should only go so far.

As for art work, when importing CDs, I nip to google and find it manually. The art work thing only goes to the apple store and they don't have even a % of the worlds Cds.

All 10,000 tracks on mine sport a Cover, many helped by third party apps, check out versiontracker for apps that get art work for you from other than the music store.

It must have taken you hours to individually search for 10,000 covers, gary! Eek

Read it again Jon!

I have used a number of apps in pursuit of the covers, the best by far is itunes catalog.

This can search all over the place, put them into itunes for you and also individually tag all your folders within the music folder with the art work too, which is handy for access other than from iTunes.

D'oh! [Sorry Red Face]

Hmmm... iTunes catalogue eh? Will have to check it out. Mind you I don't have that many tracks on there at the moment but it's one to bear in mind for the future, I guess.
