Transferring vinyl to hard disk/cdr

Posted by: Markus on 15 May 2002

I need some recommendations about what software to use record from my LP12 onto my hard drive in preparation to burn some cd compilations for friends.

A friend uses something called "toast" to do this using his Mac. I'm using a PC, not a Mac.

Also, any suggestions for software that can manipulate files created in this way for mixing beats, loops, etc?

Suggestions, experience, stories much appreciated.

Markus, in order to create the CDs you first need to get the music on the harddrive, use your sound card and a mini jack to din, (provided you are using naim preamp) use the tape loop in order to get feed.

There are many many software titles which will now record the incoming signal from your record deck such as Audion.

sorry I don't use PCs so don't know many titles, however a perusal of www.versiontracker.com will bring up many potential candidates.

Once you have recorded the music to harddrive you then need software in order to create an audio CD, simply wacking them on a CD and burning them will not do as a normal CD player will not read it.

Again sorry you will have to wait for more replies on specific software. I have itunes which will import the tunes, create a playlist then burn to disk, presumably the same exists on PCs, perhaps winamp.

Bear in mind there is also software which will get rid of clicks and pops, but be carefull as this can sometimes bugger the recording up.

Roxio make the Toast software for the mac, but also make an equivalent for the Windoze machines too
www.roxio.com

Decent sound card helps of course to get the source onto the hard disk.
