Hi all,
what is your experience with Internet Radio streamers? Has anyone found a good-enough kit to do justice to a NAIM Setup?
Thanks and regards,
Salvo

Logitech Squeezbox. Very simple and intuitive user interface. Wi-Fi enabled, no drop outs, very reliable software.

Salvo,
I have tried internet radio in the main system, don't expect great sound anyway. But the Squeezebox is not bad, some stations are enjoyable even in a good setup.

As said, Squeezebox. Depending on your DAC the music can be very enjoyable and ALL of those stations! (lots of Jazz and Radio Paradise is wonderful!)
I'd get a 2nd hand Squeezebox3/Classic (£120ish) and put it through a DAC if you have one. I pushed one of these through a CA DACMagic and it was most enjoyable. I now have a Transporter.

I tried a Logitech squeezebox and I didnt think too much of it.
Yes , its easy to use and has a great interface.
Most of the internet stations were of such low quality , it was hardly bearable to listen to any of them.
I'll stick to my analog FM tuner for the moment.

I'd second every word, but I suspect that Salvo has a similar problem to the one I had - RAI3 is not always so good, and FD5 (RAI's classical, music only channel) is not heard everywhere.
And that is that, more or less, in Italy, as far as good radio is concerned.
Unless he wants to stick to very loud religious stations, he'll need Internet Radio

Another vote for the Logitech Duet, though possibly the recently released Touch could be a better option as it can stream higher res stuff if you wanted to use it for more than radio. The remote control on the Duet is excellent - I find myself using it to listen to a lot of BBC podcasts and iplayer stuff, so it might change the way you listen to radio - listen to what you want, when you want. Most internet streams are rubbish bit-rates though - I think the radio channels on Sky are the best you can currently get in terms of bit-rate, and if you have Sky+ you can record them too and so get some time shifting.

Salvo,
my brother-in-law has a Squeezebox Classis into a Nait5 and Sonus Faber Concertos, and apart from the huge choice of stations, some of them sound pretty decent.
As far as my experience of Internet radio goes, I wouldn't spend more that the Squeezebox's s/h price for radio in the stereo system - unless you move to UK, France, Germany, Austria or USA (places where I have heard good radio personally).
Ciao,
M.

Hi,
I have had a look at the Logitech site and I have noticed the Touch box: Quite interesting!
As Max mentioned here in Italy unfortunately there's nothing much in terms of channels and programs, and most of all the advertising has killed the pleasure of listening.
I wonder the improvement one would get with the new DAC.

.. re bitrates .. I've just checked my Duet and BBC Radio 4 is 128kbps and Radio 3 192kbps - both more than I think they used to be and comparable to DAB or Sky I believe. But Classic FM is a hopeless 48kbps (not to mention ludicrously compressed).

Brendan, it's not so common outside Melbourne to have a high quality FM transmission.
Many FM stations stream high bitrate mp3 files (not so bad for the background music).
But I agree that potentially a high quality FM transmission of master tape records can provide a reference audio source -- better than vinyl
I value internet radio because it introduces me to the world of previously unknown music which I can later buy in FLAC.

I haven't heard one so this is a question ....
Anybody seen & heard the Tangent NET-200. Its Wifi internet, DAB & DAB+ready, & FM
The big thing in the world of www streamer is that its a full sized (430mm) separates type tuner, not a small plastic digibox lookalike. And it comes in black or silver.
