Thin Lizzy Recommendations

I have happy memories of TL when Phil' & the boys were back in town.
I don't have any of there records, & I'm tempted by SHM CD reissues.
I have no idea which LP was best, so could anyone help please?

This one is a must IMO.
I have it on vinyl and CD. The vinyl sounds so much richer and more meaty. Nine great songs which include the classic, The Boys are back in Town.

I'm not a huge Lizzy fan, but would suggest "Live and Dangerous" as being worth a punt.
This was originally released as a double album on vinyl, with Scott Gorham and Brian Robertson as two contrasting (and complimentary) leads guitarists.

To me the four Lizzy albums to get are, Jailbreak, Live and Dangerous, Vagabonds and Black Rose.

Thanks very much to y'all for helping out.
All sound very tempting, but as I am desperately trying not to get too carried away
I've picked Jailbreak & Vagabonds (to start with anyway!).
Cheers - John

The choice of Jailbreak is good.. dont however overlook the mellower Johnny The Fox or the rockier Bad Repuation. Rest assured it wont belong before you get hold of a copy of the best live album...

'Strangers In The Night' then...

I guess it depends if you are after a 'taste' of all the talented six stringers that Lizzy have had in their ranks over the years.
As previously mentioned, 'Live & Dangerous' is a must, Jailbreak you have already purchased. I would add 'Black Rose' and 'Thunder & Lightening' to your shopping list, the latter being Lizzy's final album with PL, plus it had the fretboard sonics of John Sykes making it one of Thin Lizzy's harder rocking albums.

I'll go with that, I bought the recent greatest hits compilation, which has some interesting extra live material. But the meat of Lizzy for me, lies with those 4 records. I think Johnny the Fox is worthwhile too. I picked up some vertigo originals of the above albums, and they really rock on LP!

Putting my head above the parapet here, but why does everybody rave about Live & Dangerous.
It is a good album but I remember it being heavily criticised for having so many studio overdubs that it couldn't be classed as a 'live' album.

L&D?, not thinking of Priests 'Unleashed in the Studio...er East' album are you? That was so heavily doctored, that is was almost a studio recording with added live audience for effect...

Live and Dangerous was heavily overdubbed (but that doesn't make it a bad album)and parts of songs were taken from different shows.
I saw Lizzy quite a few times during the twin guitar period and they just rocked. But never ever thought any of their discs and that includes Live and Dangerous did them any justice. Too tame sounding.
Scott Gorham was supposed to be working on the actual Live and Dangerous tour shows for a general release.

Renegade, very under-rated.
Personally I'd buy in this order.
1. Jailbreak
2. Fighting
3. Renegade
4. Live and Dangerous
5. Bad Reputation
6. Johnny the Fox
7. Chinatown
8. Vagabond of the Western World
and if you get this far you may as well go out and buy the rest.
Solo in Soho is also well worth the price of admission.
