Linn Classik

Posted by: Naheed on 14 July 2002

I've been looking lately for a simple/unobtrusive av system to replace my current effort.

I was hoping a suitable/sensible offerring would arrive from naim, but i saw the Linn Classik the other day another all-in-one effort - which really appeals to me, its around £2k...

Anyone got this or had a demo, anyone know of a good Linn dealer, north London area ?

Hi Naheed,

A couple of weeks ago Bas V (forum member) came to pay me a visit, and brought along his white Linn Classik. I must say it looks beautiful!
It's an elegant, sober looking machine.
(although I can't remember ever having seen an RC with so many buttons)

Just out of curiosity we plugged in my CDX into the 'Aux', to check the amp section of the Classik.
The amp section of the classik has way more balls then the old Nait-2 and the sound of the classik is softer and more rounded, but in the end I (we) preferred the sound of my Nait-2. (more open, detailed)

So, it's still a very neat and stylish (in different colours available) solution and you also won't have aby cables in sight, but sonically... hmm, not really my cup o' tea to be honest.

regards,
Alco smile

I have the audio one, there is a DVD one as well now. - see www.classik.com

It is a fine machine, it replaced a Karik/72/ hicap/250 as my kitchen hi-fi, and does a good job on radio and CD into Keilidhs. I also put the TV though it.

It really is a good way to get the number of boxes and clutter down, and it a reasonable compromise on sound quality - miles better than a lot of mini / midi systems in most people's living rooms.

Hi Naheed!

I recently sold my CDI, 102+psc+Hi,180 and 03 because of moving in with my girlfriend (and her smaller room). I bought a Linn Classik (it actually was a grey one Alco) as I thought I could live with it for a while.
I used the Classik indeed "for a while", as I sold it a couple of weeks ago and bought a used CD5 and Nait5 for a very price. The Linn is just no match for Naim gear. I wasn't enjoying my music as I was used to, which is not so strange if yoy consider the prices of the Naim system I sold and the Classik. But, as I now have the new 5 series, I am really happy again.
It's not to say that the Classik isn't good value, because it is. It's just not up to the Naim sound!

Greetz, Bas
