Help! My iPod's died
Posted by: Kevin-W on 21 June 2005
I was walking along yesterday and all of a sudden my iPod seized up. It just stuck in the middle of the track. Couldn't stop, pause or resart it, couldn't even switch it off. The battery has drained way and despite recharging it nothing seems to have happened. I can't even switch it on. Do you think the heads might be stuck on the hard disk or something? It hasn't been dropped so I am bewildered as to why this should have happened.
Any ideas or suggestions gratefully received. It's a 20GB G4 iPod by the way.
Thanks
Kevin

There is a reset procedure which usually works in those circumstances (my iPod has done the same a few times).
If I recall correctly it involves flicking the lock switch on and off, then pressing the select and play buttons together for about 10 seconds. Best to check the internet for the exact procedure though. Sometimes it's also necessary to have the iPod on its docking station for the procedure to work.

1. Toggle the Hold switch on and off.
2. Press the Play/Pause and Menu buttons at the same time until the Apple logo appears onscreen.
Sometimes it'll need to be plugged into your computer for that to work.

on mine (2nd version I think) you just make sure it is not locked and hold down play/pause and menu buttons for approx 10 seconds and the apple logo will appear.

My Ipod mini need the reset trick today for the first time ever. Thought I had to go buy a new one there for the moment (a 60gb photo, anyway.......).
Thank god I work with some technically adapt folks. One has one of those bags you hook your iPod up to and you use buttons on the strap. Way cool. For a bag.

Jay,
Have you bought the 60GB 'photo' ? And if so, how do you find it ? I am tempted myself, as a means of archiving off images from my digital camera when travelling. Can one mix music and images etc.? Anyone with comments of the 'photo' ?

Hi David
No basically. The guys fixed my mini and hence the immediate need disappeared.
Actually the guy that fixed it has a Photo and loves it. He had the ipod bag too
