Outer Mongolia Good Cd/Record Shops ?

Posted by: Berlin Fritz on 09 April 2005

I'm wondering if anybody knows any decent places to get cd's over there, as they burn well on the old campfire to heat up the horse milk schnapps ?

I've just heard that, like Florida, it's open season on tourists looking for record shops, especially British spies travelling under German pseudonyms.

Sounds reasonable to me.

BF,

I think you are refering to my many bike crashes. Most of these were not my fault, I was just in the wrong place at the wrong time.

A few extracts:

I mainly fell in the road, which is not very forgiving but once, when I was a junior, I went right through a hedge at about 30 mile an hour and was OK, albeit a bit shook up.

My two worst crashes (chute as they say in France) was when I raced as a vet (veteran not the animal doc). In a race in Surrey (1991) I was fourth or fifth in line and the rider in front of me hit a pothole and knocked me off. I landed heavily on my left shoulder and my clavicle now sticks up about 2.5cm more than it should do.

However, the crash that made me pack up cycling was in 1993 when I was out training and a young lad riding on the pavement decided to make a detour into the road without looking and who did he hit, yes you guessed correct, me. Despite wearing a helmet I sustained head and neck injuries which has taken me quite a few years to recover from.

One of the worst crashes I have seen was in a evening race at the old Crystal Palace motor racing circuit in '65 (I think). We used to go the opposite way to the cars/motorbikes which meant that it was a downhill finish. This was in the days of massive fields of 150 or so riders. It was a handicap race but the groups would soon merge and the speed was incredible. This was also when helmets were not compulsory although a lot of riders, including myself, did wear them (the old leather padded jobs - not brilliant but better than nothing). Difficult to believe these days. Anyway, last lap, speed unbelieveable, a few hundred yards from the finish and bang, riders all over the road, and one of them never got up, he was dead. I can't remember whether he was wearing a helmet or not but the year after helmets were made compulsory for circuit races.

A fantastic sport but it does have a downside.

I did try getting back on my bike but my nerve had gone. I think I have used up all of my nine lives.

It's a great sport. I still love watching it.

Andy

You have my sympathies about giving up. I just bought my first bike in 20 years last summer after fracturing my skull.

Now love being back in the saddle !

LTD,

Good luck with your new bike. You can't beat the buzz after a good spin.

Thanks Andy !

I have came to realise that a hot bath is often much better than a hot shower after a serious spell out. Frown

I'm sure a thread on "shower related accidents" could be rather interesting ............... Eek
