Snow Leopard anyone?

Any Appleites have a view on this upcoming release?

The Apple shop is doing a free shipping offer for a few days - remember just because you have a copy it does not require you to install it until several point releases have passed and be proved to be OK.

I will be upgrading. Family pack - 5 licences for £39 seems a bit of a bargain. Will wait and see how successful the release is first before I take the plunge.

It really seems to be a release for quicker booting and closing, quicker attachment to wifi networks and less hard disc space.

I will be upgrading most certainly. Very interested to see whether the improvements make a noticeable difference. 'Grand Central Dispatch' could well prove to be fantastic. All the cores in the world aren't going to make a difference unless the software is written to utilise them all effectively. Same with 64-bit system apps.

For £25 its almost silly not to. My system could do with an overhaul as well, so convenient timing.

Really snappy on my Macbook, no downside yet, works smoothly and perfectly well, without any compatibility problem (the Gold Master verison I mean)

Isn't it more of a tidy up than recent releases? Not so much wait for the first update?

Cheers,

You can always drown your sorrows in 'luxury' vodka if it doesn't work.

As I bought a Mac Mini in June, I get the Snow Leopard for £7! A no-brainer, as they say.

There's always the nagging doubt about being a "First Adopter" but I'll probably give it a couple of weeks before installing & meanwhile look on the Apple Forums for any glitches.

The Register has a quick bit on the beta release if anyone is interested. They speculate nothing much changed between than and the final version.

As I am on 10.4.Luddite my only option seems to be to buy a set of Snow Leopard, iworks and ilife for a less than appealing £129. 10.4, here I stay.

Not only is today Snow Leopard day there is also an update for Aperture.

All this and within a week of the BBQ in Salisbury.

I'll don a suit of armour and brave the heaving masses at Oxford Circus and pick up a copy at the Apple Store on Regent St at lunchtime and all being well will have it installed by 6pm or so tonight....

If anyone is using SONOS when you install Snow Leopard the controller software doesnt work initially but speaking to a guy on the SONOS forum you just download and re-install the version 3 software to fix the problem

Scotty

Seems fine and stable so far. Things may generally be a bit snappier....I haven't played with any the new features yet but to be honest most of the improvements are under the hood. Not a glitch on installation and it took about an hour on this 3 year old MacBook Pro.

Cheers

OK, I fibbed again. I have a problem with the Desktop/ScreenSaver preference setting. Every time I try to open it it crashes out of Preferences.

Time to do some research to see if anyone else has come across this.

Loaded Snow Leopard this morning on a second h/drive inside my MacPro 2.8 Dual Quad Core (original Leopard 10.5 still loaded on first h/drive, just in case...)

No problems so far with the following software:

Macaroni System Maintenance
Adobe CS3 Suite
Microsoft Office Suite 2008 Version 12.2.0 (much faster to open applications)
Capture One V4

Very impressed so far

It is quick starting up and closing down - excellent. Queues at the Apple store were not bad. They had lots of extra staff on duty taking your cash.

Keep getting some Microsoft Rosetta message that I need to research later.
Posted on: 28 August 2009 by Absolute
I don't think Rosetta automatically installs with Snow, but if you need it after for some apps, like office i think, then i can be installed as and when.

anyone noticed i-tunes running quicker ? which was one of the promises.

On my MacBook Pro I ended up getting 16GB of space back on the hard drive. Just been reading some forums and others are experiencing similar if not bigger space saves. Wonder what disappeared during install! A few more machines to upgrade tonight so will see if a similar result achieved.
