Thanks - easily solved and now installed - Rosetta was on the Snow Leopard disc in an optional install folder.

Indeed. The Sound is now really better.

I have a problem with the Desktop/ScreenSaver preference setting. Every time I try to open it it crashes out of Preferences.
Well, fixed that one by simply deleting the Desktop Preferences plist.

This was a joke right...?

This article might answer for some of that:

I have it up and running okay. Install was painless.

Tried Aperture and Flexcolor; both initally appear okay. PSE is asking for Rosetta.

There is no reason to think the sound would not be better there have been significant changes to core audio, which in the end controls sound.

If people jizz their pants about hifi racks and cable blocks, then its not unfair to assume a fundamental software change including its main source of audio could also alter the sound.

Didn't you express a huge amount of scepticism about Amarra some weeks back?

I can hear no difference in iTunes replay/quality since installing Snow Leopard.

Thank you George

How do you determine how much space has been saved ? Thankyou.
Posted on: 29 August 2009 by Derek Wright
You look at the daily copy of your Leopard drive that you have ready to boot from just in case. and see how space it took on there .

Trying to install on a MacBook Pro with Leopard OS-X, follow install instructions, it starts then after about 5 minute it appears to "stall" and then 10 or 15 minutes later gives me an error message telling me to carefully remove and clean the disc and then freezes with the pinwheel cursor and will not release the disc unless I shut down and restart at which time it ejects. I have 1.63 gb memory available (1 gb required) and have 28 gb disc available (5 required).

Has done this twice.

We are trying it on the iMac - yes, it is a family pack, and it appears to be working.

Any suggestions re: the laptop ?

thanks

The only thing i can think of is the standard: disk verification and repair permissions.

It doesn't sound like it has anything to do with an OS upgrade, but it seems to cure a hell of a lot of weird goings on.

Update:
the iMac install was successful.

3 additional tries on the MacBook have ended unsuccessful as described earlier.

I give up for today.

Jim I expressed concern that software which is basically an EQ costs 800 quid.

I am not saying leopard does sound better, but the fact is core audio has been re-written from the ground up. To all intents and purposes its new, so could, could sound different.

I have been on the appleseed for 3 months with leopard, however I never installed it on my media mac so do not know to date if it does sound different.

There seem to be a few security glitches it would seem:

I don't feel the urge to upgrade just yet, so don't mind waiting a few weeks for a potential cure.

Do you think the "researcher" works for a company selling security products by any chance?

Most of the nit-wit news articles on 'computer security' feature comment from representatives of McAfee, Sophos etc. The news item merely serving as an advert.

The article was written in 2007. What relevance this has to snow leopard is not clear to me.
