Any Appleites have a view on this upcoming release?

Sorry about the link earlier, it seemed to be linked to the Snow Leopard update.

now installed and running fine....looks and runs exactly the same to me!
Posted on: 01 September 2009 by tonym
Mine's in and running a treat. Definitely faster!
Posted on: 01 September 2009 by BigH47
Seems to be faster, but I can't run Music Collector now, it opens and then crashes out.

Now music collector wants me to pay again this is really annoying.
Anyway back to Snow Patrol, I seem to be missing some icons now the back up is doing now and only the writing, no Icon, and when I insert a CD it just says the title again no CD icon.
As per usual the instructions for the upgrade don't tell you how to find or use the "new features"

BigH - Have you raised the payment issue on their forum - they are quite responsive.
Posted on: 01 September 2009 by BigH47
Derek, I've sent a couple of e-mails, as you say they usually respond well.

Just as well it's not a PC upgrade, otherwise how many pages of problems would there be?
Posted on: 02 September 2009 by winkyincanada
Well I just installed it without any apparent problems. But here is my issue. It installed much faster than it said. It estimated 50 minutes plus, but was done in 10 or so. It just seemed to finish and reboot suddenly. No confirmation of success was given and I have no clue how to check if it went OK. Where do I find the OS Version number on my computer?
Everything seems to be working OK otherwise.

click on the little apple symbol, top left on the screen - there you will see "about this mac," select that.
Also, if you go to System Preferences and hit "Start up disc," you'll see drive with OS
If you "Get Info" on the icon for your hard drive, you'll see version
all should show 10.6

The fast install might imply that the second boot did not take and you are left with the old system.
To overcome this - put DVD in drive and restart with C key pressed during reboot to get the machine to boot from the DVD. Then proceed to install

My only problem with Snow Leopard is that my printer, an ancient HP Deskjet 5552 is no longer supported. It will print text but that's it, no more photo printing. I've tried HP, Apple and Gutenprint Printer Drivers without luck. It looks like I'll have to buy a new printer.
Not unless garyi can help please?

Significantly faster on our Xerox DocuColor 240 printer + RIP (using LPR)–not a minor difference.

Thanks. Turns out it didn't install but was no problem on the second try. So far, so good.

GML, most issues with printing have come from people doing an upgrade install and not a clean install.
If you have done an upgrade install then goto the system prefs and printers. IN there should be your printer. Remove it.
No click on the plus button and see if it reappears, hopefully it will, select it and see how you get on with that one.

Dammit my copy was posted on the 28th and has yet to turn up. Allow 5 - 10 days, they say!

garyi,
Thanks for that but it's something I'd already tried. The printer does reappear but it makes no difference.
I think I was lucky that it worked at all on the Mac in the first place considering I originally bought it for use with a PC.
Pre Snow Leopard it printed photos correctly and worked just fine. I've checked a list of supported printers and mine isn't there.
I note from forums that others are also having printer driver problems with various makes so I'm not alone.
My son can make good use of it with his PC so it won't go to waste.
Cheers
George.

I had problems with my Epson printer, but repaired permissions and deleted and then re-installed the drivers as per an instruction on the Epson site. It now works fine. Before the permissions repair, the printer would appear but then crash.
I did an Archive and Install.

There is thread at Apple about my MacBook Pro situation ... but no solution.
thanks

I've upgraded both my Macbook and my 3 year old, dual core, iMac. Given the chance, I'd not do this again. The Macbook is working fine and the upgrade only took an hour. The iMac is a different story.
Its taken me about 3 days to get my iMac in to a stable position. The upgrade damaged a Keychain, that was then propagated through Mobileme. My main digital music source is Squeezebox and that simply doesn't play nice on Snow. My torrent client (vuze) also failed, as did my video workflow (videodrive), and a host of tiny helper apps.
I also had some old Maxtor software installed that I thought I'd killed but it left a Rosetta needing hook behind, that caused the upgrade to crash at least twice.
Now the machine is stable, I have to say its noticeably slower - I get the spinning colour wheel all the time, and Firefox seems to hate loading complex pages.
Be careful
Andy

I suspect the 'apple' answer to your question is to run Disk Utility (found in the utility folder - open finder and press shift, apple + U), and under the First Aid tab, to press the Verify and Repair buttons, but the very best answer is to spend another $40 and buy DiskWarrior. Its simple amazing software that has saved my neck more than once.

Thanks, Andy, I ran the disk verify and it indicates the disk appears ok.
